Update about GPS Jamming in Bulgaria related to the EU Presidents Plane

Basically initial news articles were often quite miss-leading. Yes GPS jamming, but they were only delayed about 9 minutes, and they used a standard VOR/ILS approach which was not GPS based. About paper maps -- no but they may have looked up the VOR/ILS procedure on an electronic or paper chart and this is pretty standard.

WSJ, Media Outlets Slammed for Spreading Feds' False Claim That Kirk Shooter Expressed 'Transgender Ideology'

The Wall Street Journal and other media outlets are facing widespread criticism after spreading the false claim that the shooter of Charlie Kirk expressed "transgender ideology," stirring a hateful right-wing backlash against trans people.

Prove Me Wrong

Charlie Kirk was unremarkable. He was a racist. A white nationalist, transphobe, and megaphone for fascism but more than anything, he was unremarkable. I am one of the eldest of millennials, and thanks to a litany of health issues as well as a fondness for reading, an indoor kid. So when the internet was accessible for home use, I took to it as soon as I could. With unfettered access to all corners of the Wild West that was the internet before it was effectively owned by four companies, I ran across people like Charlie Kirk often enough.

In the earliest days, they were indistinguishable from the creeps who wouldn't meet your eye at booths in the back of the flea market. Well, my eye, anyway. I'm sure if you weren't a little black kid, they would've gladly welcomed you over to look at their wares, which I'd find out later on in life were things like xeroxed copies of The Turner Diaries and other such reactionary Nazi garbage. As they broke containment from listservs and BBSs, they'd pop up in forums and chat rooms to test the waters to see how tolerable their bullshit was in a given place. More likely than not, the main aim was to find other like-minded scumbags or impressionable kids to pull off into other, more shadowy places.

Later as things gave way to more formalized websites and community platforms that would lead to modern social media, the Charlie Kirks of the world slunk off to corners of the 'Net that might be more familiar to you as seeds of the current hellworld we find ourselves in. Getting booted from Something Awful to end up on the imageboards. Taking detours from their own blogs or frantically refreshing the Drudge Report to jump in the comments sections of more populated and legitimate platforms, yelling invective about whatever news of the day related to their particular bugbear–blacks, gays, and proto-men's rights/incel rhetoric, typically. At least back then in my experience, the more blatant antisemitism was less common even among these types, because there was much less willful confusion about what actual antisemitism was. The associated dogwhistles were much more likely to get you correctly identified as someone who holds the Elders of the Protocols of Zion in high regard. But I digress.

On into the rise of social media, the accessibility of video content, and the ability to post at the speed of your thumbs' dexterity across a phone, people like Charlie Kirk were a dime-a-dozen. Turning Point as a concern aside, the steady erosion of news media under the disastrous and still relevant effects of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 (and, perhaps, the much earlier elimination of the Fairness Doctrine) has allowed for an environment where "objectivity" is an excuse to give blatant fascism apologia the same open floor as actual, substantive and informative political or social commentary. With men like Rush Limbaugh and Pat Buchanan as their guiding lights, the internet is lousy with bigots that can offer a veneer of legitimacy because for the average viewer, their cadence and distribution methods are indistinguishable from influencers–which is where a disconcerting number of the public get their news from–and Charlie Kirk was merely a particularly odious member of the pack. He's no different than Ben Shapiro, Steven Crowder, Candace Owens, Tomi Lahren, and countless other reactionaries with Shure mics and ring lights–aside from his "activism," which only really differentiated him from his colleagues because of its intended scope. Whatever else you can say about his colleagues, in my opinion they're more concerned with maintaining a loyal platform, whereas Charlie Kirk's primary aim was stochastic terrorism.

Senators demand ICE cease use of facial recognition app

Senators Edward J. Markey, Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley sent a letter Thursday to Acting US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Todd Lyons urging the agency to stop using “Mobile Fortify,” a smartphone app that uses biometric identification, including facial recognition. The lawmakers said facial recognition remains unreliable and warned that real-time surveillance could have a chilling effect on constitutionally protected activities.

"As studies have shown, when individuals believe they are being surveilled, they are less likely to engage in First Amendment-protected activities, such as protests or rallies — undermining the very core of our democracy,” the senators wrote.

They requested answers from the agency by October 2 as to who built the app, when it was deployed, whether ICE tested its accuracy, the legal basis for its use and current agency policies governing the tool's use. They also asked whether ICE would commit to ending the use of Mobile Fortify, and to explain why if they would not. The letter was also signed by Senators Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Chris Van Holle, Tina Smith, Bernie Sanders and Adam Schiff.

Exclusive: Kratsios details White House AI plans

The government wants AI to accelerate quickly in the U.S. — and it's about to take the first steps to remove as much red tape as possible, Office of Science and Technology Policy director Michael Kratsios told Axios in an exclusive interview.

Why it matters: Kratsios is at the center of AI policy in the Trump administration, and the White House is laser-focused on reshaping the rules around the technology.

Driving the news: OSTP later this month will ask the public and businesses to weigh in on the federal regulations that they think hold back the development and deployment of AI, Kratsios told Axios.

This request for information is the first policy action recommended in the White House's AI action plan aimed at removing bureaucratic red tape.
What they're saying: Kratsios said that Europe's comprehensive AI law, the EU AI Act, is "not at all the way the U.S. is approaching this" space.

The White House is instead backing what he describes as a "use-case and sector-specific" framework.
For example, in health care, there could be regulations that hinder the development of particular medical devices, Kratsios said. Or in finance, there could be regs around algorithmic trading and consumer protection holding AI back.

Kratsios also applauded Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz's recent introduction of legislation that would allow companies to test products in a less-strictly regulated AI "sandbox," or testing zone.
"Sandboxing, broadly in the world of emerging tech, is something I have been a big proponent of, and the president has supported over the years," Kratsios said.

29 .;e)"ce l'ho durov" disse egli dopo aver reso Telegram una merda rotta schifosa pay to winnColli9 EDIUIZIONI9 EDUROVÈ9 EDIUIZIONI9 EDIUIZIONIÈa ° DUROV9 E

Comcast Executives Warn Workers To Not Say The Wrong Thing About Charlie Kirk | 404 Media

Comcast Executives Warn Workers To Not Say The Wrong Thing About Charlie Kirk

A company-wide email from Comcast executives, sent to everyone working at NBCUniversal on Friday morning, mourns right-wing pundit Charlie Kirk’s death and reminds employees that saying the wrong thing about Kirk’s legacy can get you fired swiftly.

The email, obtained by 404 Media and first reported by Variety, has the subject line “A message from Brian Roberts, Mike Cavanagh, and Mark Lazarus.” In it, the executives eulogize Kirk, calling him an “advocate for open debate, whose faith was important to him.”

Roberts is the Chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation, Cavanagh is the president, and Lazarus is the prospective CEO of VERSANT, Comcast’s new spinoff that will include the majority of its NBCUniversal cable network portfolio. NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo and more journalistic and entertainment properties are under the NBCUniversal umbrella.

“You may have seen that MSNBC recently ended its association with a contributor who made an unacceptable and insensitive comment about this horrific event,” the executives wrote. “That coverage was at odds with fostering civil dialogue and being willing to listen to the points of view of those who have differing opinions.”

💡
Do you have information about how your company is speaking to employees about Charlie Kirk's death, or political speech in general? I would love to hear from you. Using a non-work device, you can message me securely on Signal at sam.404. Otherwise, send me an email at sam@404media.co.

Political analyst Matthew Dowd was fired from MSNBC on Wednesday after speaking about Kirk’s death on air. During a broadcast on Wednesday following the shooting, anchor Katy Tur asked Dowd about “the environment in which a shooting like this happens,” according to Variety. Dowd answered: “He’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that is the environment we are in. You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place. And that’s the unfortunate environment we are in.”

MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler issued an apology in response, calling Dowd’s words “inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable.” Dowd also apologized publicly, posting on Bluesky: “On an earlier appearance on MSNBC I was asked a question on the environment we are in. I apologize for my tone and words. Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this horrendous attack.”

Charlie Kirk Was Not Practicing Politics the Right Way
The mainstream media seems entirely uninterested in explaining Charlie Kirk’s work.
404 MediaJason Koebler

MSNBC is a division of NBCUniversal. The letter from Comcast executives reiterates to current employees that their jobs are on the line if they stray from bland, milquetoast statements about a man who spent his life fomenting hate will have consequences on their careers. The entire mainstream media environment has been working overtime to sanitize Kirk’s legacy since his murder—a legacy that includes targeted harassment of professors at schools across the country and normalizing the notion that basic human rights are up for “debate.”

The full email is below.

Dear Comcast NBCUniversal Team,

The tragic loss of Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old father, husband, and advocate for open debate, whose faith was important to him, reminds us of the fragility of life and the urgent need for unity in our nation. Our hearts are heavy, as his passing leaves a grieving family and a country grappling with division. There is no place for violence or hate in our society.

You may have seen that MSNBC recently ended its association with a contributor who made an unacceptable and insensitive comment about this horrific event. That coverage was at odds with fostering civil dialogue and being willing to listen to the points of view of those who have differing opinions. We should be able to disagree, robustly and passionately, but, ultimately, with respect. We need to do better.

Charlie Kirk believed that "when people stop talking, really bad stuff starts." Regardless of whether you agreed with his political views, his words and actions underscore the urgency to maintain a respectful exchange of ideas a principle we must champion. We believe in the power of communication to bring us together. Today, that belief feels more vital than ever. Something essential has fractured in our public discourse, and as a company that values the power of information, we have a responsibility to help mend it.

As employees, we ask you to embody our values in your work and communities. We should engage with respect, listen, and treat people with kindness.

US SEC to dismiss case against former Nikola CEO

In the case, filed in 2021, U.S. prosecutors accused Milton of falsely claiming that Nikola had built an electric- and hydrogen-powered pickup from scratch and developed batteries in-house while knowingly sourcing them externally.

Milton, who received a pardon from U.S. President Donald Trump this year, also waived his right to seek legal costs and released all claims against the agency, the document showed.

Nikola's stock plummeted after Hindenburg Research, a former high-profile short-seller, targeted the company in 2020, accusing it of deceiving investors about its technological advancements.

US launches pilot program to speed air taxi deployment

Joby Aviation (JOBY.N), praised the program, saying, "aircraft in the program can begin operations in select markets ahead of full FAA certification, a critical step in preparing for scaled commercial service."

Air taxi stocks rose on the program first reported by Reuters. Joby shares were up 5% while Archer Aviation was up 3%.

Air taxi firms are racing to secure approvals and commercialize air taxi aircraft to meet the growing demand for faster and more sustainable urban transportation. They tout eVTOLs that can take off and land vertically to ferry travelers to airports or for short city trips, allowing them to beat traffic.
