I don't know whether to be horrified at the AI's casual probitive actions or reassured that it seemed to learn to perform empathy pretty quickly (at least within this context window).

Ah! Finally a good explanation through which I understand it a lot better. Thanks for writing. Even privacy conscious and tech savvy people can learn from this.

Venezuela Announces Capture of Alleged DEA Agent With Massive Drug Shipment

According to Cabello, the detainees confessed the shipment was part of a "false flag operation" designed to incriminate Venezuela in international drug trafficking and justify external aggression. "The four detainees are saying they work for the DEA," Cabello told state television, calling the alleged plan a "maneuver for destabilization."

Authorities said the boat originated in Colombia's Guajira region and was connected to a trafficking group called "Los Orientales," allegedly led by Gersio Parra Machado. Cabello argued that the operation demonstrated Venezuela's commitment to combating narcotics without resorting to lethal force. "We don't apply the death penalty," he said, drawing a contrast with U.S. military strikes on alleged drug vessels in the Caribbean.

Just watched Laura Ingraham cheer on ICEgestapo body-slamming a Democrat.

Being violent and cheering it on just comes naturally to them. They are like a fish in water when it comes to their violence - until they think they see a liberal or a Democrat doing it.

Then out come the pearls and there is much clutching.

Computer games you (probably) didn’t know existed!

Love that Metal Jesus is diving deeper into obscure PC games. As a former Sierra employee, he brings a perspective few retro enthusiasts can match.

And honestly, any spotlight on PC gaming history is welcome. It’s a part of retro culture that too often gets pushed aside.

Which blows my mind—because even if you only count DOS and Windows, leaving out Mac, Amiga, and Linux, PC still has the single biggest game library of all time.

Samsung Embeds Israeli Surveillance App on Phones Across MENA

Rabat_ Social Media Exchange (SMEX)—a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing human rights in digital spaces across MENA [Middle East and North Africa] — is warning that Israeli-linked software secretly embedded in Samsung phones across the Middle East and North Africa region poses a serious surveillance threat.

According to SMEX, Samsung’s A and M series devices either come preloaded with the app “Aura” or install it automatically through system updates, without the user’s consent. The application reportedly collects a wide range of personal and device-specific data, including IP addresses, device fingerprints, hardware details, and network information.

🚨 NEW RULES: Don’t Be a Gamer. Talk About Games.

Two new rules have been added to this community, and they deserve some explanation.

Inspired by this comment, I started thinking about why so many gaming spaces feel shallow or exhausting.

The problem is that they are rarely about video games themselves. Instead, they become about “being a gamer”—a label, an identity, and a consumer tribe. That identity is built on cycles of hype, outrage, loyalty to platforms, and endless talk of hardware or marketing. It flattens games into consumable products, and the people into market demographics.

That’s not the kind of community I want to build. I’m here because I see games as art, and I want to share that perspective with others who think the same way. If someone views games mainly as a lifestyle accessory, or if their whole identity is wrapped up in consumption, then this space will feel alien to them—and that’s intentional.

Which is why the first new rule is simple: “This is not a gamer identity space.” It sets the boundary clearly. We don’t need the baggage of gamer identity here. This community isn’t a loyalty badge, it’s a place for deeper thought.

The second new rule grows directly out of the first: “Talk about games as art.” If games are art—and they are—then the most interesting conversations we can have are about design, aesthetics, mechanics, and meaning.

What is this game trying to say? What choices did the creators make, and why? How does its structure, its tone, or its style affect the way we experience it? These are the kinds of questions that lift discussion beyond consumption and into critique, interpretation, and appreciation.

I added this rule because I’ve seen firsthand what happens when you try to talk about games in this way elsewhere. In another gaming community (which doesn’t need to be named), I made the mistake of approaching the medium with positivity and seriousness—treating it as art worth celebrating.

The reaction was hostility. People saw appreciation as “shilling,” and thoughtful discussion as a threat to their outrage-driven culture. That told me all I needed to know: rather than fight to carve out space in communities built on negativity, it’s better to establish one that starts with positivity and respect for the medium itself.

So that’s the point of these two new rules. They’re not just lines in a list—they’re the foundation for what kind of community this will be. A place where games are treated as works of art, not consumer trophies. A place where we discuss choices, meaning, and design, not just hardware wars or outrage cycles.

This is a place where positivity is not only welcome but expected.

Fetterman denies Gaza genocide, claims it’s a “just war”

Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania continued the Democrats’ piling on against Palestinians this past Sunday.

Fetterman asserted to CNN’s Manu Raju: “There’s no ethnic cleansing. It’s not a genocide. This is a just war.”

Asked by Raju if Israel was using “starvation as a weapon,” he claimed: “No. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. Israel is not deliberately starving people, absolutely.”

He added: “Those conditions are miserable there. And it is hell on earth. Why? Some people blame Israel for that? I blame Hamas and Iran for that thing.”

This continues most Democrats’ failure to recognize the Gaza genocide, even walking back the genocide assertion in the recent case of Congresswoman Katherine Clark, a top leader in the House of Representatives.

Trump’s Petty-Tyrant Brand of Fascism | The Nation

"But still, there is something so cheap and tawdry, something so manifestly hollow and farcical about this regime, that to give it the name of a grand historical tragedy like “fascism”—or even the terrible title “dictatorship,” implying as it does the concentrated, legalized use of terror and force—grants it a dignity it does not deserve. The regime may be authoritarian in its aims, but it can’t fairly be said to be totalitarian, except in the dreamworlds of its most servile supporters: Political life and pluralism amble on and are unlikely to be swept away entirely. Trump may wish to shape reality to his whims, but he cannot; gravity still holds, and the poll numbers are going down. I understand the hesitation to award the Trump administration the badge of fascist dishonor, especially when it so badly wants to be taken as something formidable and frightening. It all seems like a spectacle. Why, indeed, take it so seriously when its attempt to cow Los Angeles into submission with military occupation fizzled? Or dress up what is a massive agglomeration of rackets and scams led by a racketeer in chief, more Al Capone than Il Duce, into a world-historical drama? Why contribute to the climate of numbing conspiratorial speculation that proved so instrumental to Trump’s rise by granting him an additional air of hocus-pocus?"
