The statistic about Qatari funding for antisemitism became the highlight of Small’s testimony to Congress. But this precise statistic was never actually recorded in his study.
Small repeated the same claim in a Senate hearing in March of this year. But when contacted for comment about the figure, ISGAP could not point Drop Site to any specific report or finding. One ISGAP study published in 2023 did report that, from 2015-2020, universities that received money from “Middle Eastern” donors had a 300% increase in antisemitic incidents compared to those that do not. But this report is also disputed—and there is no data in it specifically linking Qatari funding to a rise in antisemitic incidents.
Drop Site interviewed over a half-dozen former employees and scholars of ISGAP, many of whom explained that the organization has strayed from the mission of academic study of antisemitism into a hyper-fixation on Qatari funding of U.S. institutions—while ISGAP itself has accepted foreign funding from Israel.

With DPRK it seems pretty simple: Are citizens permitted to leave the country of their own accord? The answer of course is no, and that is extremely telling. Combined with choreographed & escort-only tourism, one really has to question it.
My opinion: Odds are likely that it really is a shithole in many ways and in many places (and for many reasons, sanctions included). It's important to recognize that a large part of why the DPRK appears to be insular is because of UN-imposed sanctions, helmed by the US Empire. It is difficult to get accurate information on the DPRK, but not impossible; Russia, China, and Cuba all have frequent interactions and student exchanges, trade such as in the Rason special economic zone, etc, and there are videos released onto the broader internet from this.
Finally, it's more unlikely than ever that the DPRK will collapse. The economy was estimated by the Bank of Korea (an ROK bank) to have grown by 3.7% in 2024, thanks to increased trade with Russia. The harshest period for the DPRK, the Arduous March, was in the 90s, and the government did not collapse then. That was the era of mass statvation thanks to the dissolution of the USSR and horrible weather disaster that made the already difficult agricultural climate of northern Korea even worse. Nowadays food is far more stable and the economy is growing, collapse is highly unlikely.
What I think is more likely is that these trends will continue. As the US Empire's influence wanes, the DPRK will increase trade and interaction with the world, increasing accurate information and helping grow their economy, perhaps even enabling some form of reunification with the ROK. The US Empire leaving the peninsula is the number 1 most important task for reunification, so this is increasingly likely as the US Empire becomes untenable.

I have bad news for you. From the specs on their site it appears to be a 6.5 inch FHD screen with a mid-range MediaTek processor. Really not much different from all the other mid-range phones offered in their site. For flagship price.
Though to be fair to the project, you don't need to buy a phone from them, you can re-inage an existing device bought elsewhere as long as it's one of their supported models.

My understanding is that it just redirects all the data collection from Google to Murena. Like you’re just trading one corp for another. That’s why some people have an issue with it anyway. Especially since GrapheneOS exists. I take a slightly more nuanced view that a lot of the conveniences modern smartphone users take for granted rely on this type of backend infrastructure. It’s sort of hard to avoid if you value mainstream features. That may be sort of a controversial viewpoint though.

I'll never understand why privacy companies do this: sell a thoroughly mid-range phone for a flagship price. The privacy OS market in my experience is largely either tech nerds with enough cash to splash out on a new/second unnecessary device just so they can play around with trying to get the new OS working for themselves, until it eventually becomes their daily driver, or poor students who got a beat up phone from their friend's cousin's neighbor's ex-girlfriend's roommate and are slapping this alternative OS on it to use as their main with all consequences be damned. Obviously there are people in the middle there, but tjoses eem to be the two primary groups. So the bulk of people you're selling to are those who want a higher end phone primarily, and probably would be willing to pay for it. Instead, they make a mid-range device that has low margins, often in small quantities because they throw in some niche feature that costs a ton to add to the existing design like a hardware kill switch, and then charge flagship phone prices for a mid-range device.
I'm willing to settle for having to buy a google pixel for instance (which is always a 2 year old design by the time it's released), and wait a bit before it's supported, but I'm never interested in a mid-range device. I dont care how much I support your mission, I'll throw a couple hundred at you as a donation before I even consider that. And that's assuming I'm buying the device at mid-range price. It's out of the question that I'd ever pay flagship prices for it.
Let me know when you have something that's closer to a 3 year old flagship and we'll talk, otherwise stop throwing your time and money at making a phone for a market that doesn't exist.
To this day I still can't understand what all the "need" for incredibly high-end phones come from. Gaming? That's the answer I've gotten before, and that just leaves me wondering why anyone would want to game on a phone to begin with. Are there other use cases for a phone that actually requires anything top of the line?
My phone was considered "mid-range spec" when it was released 4 years ago and it is still perfectly capable for anything I would want to use a phone for.
As for pricing - remember that there are other things than pure specs baked into a price. A locked down phone (i.e. no way of unlocking bootloader) riddled with spyware is likely cheaper than it otherwise would be from a company that won't be able to keep monetizing you as a product after your purchase. That's not to say that there is no such thing as a price mismatch, but matching price vs specs does not tell the whole story.
For me? Basic functionality. Even the Pixel 9 Pro is laggy as hell just opening apps like Garmin. God forbid I try to use the browser for anything. And that's a flagship phone.

Strange, I am rarely experiencing any lag on my four year old mid-range model, browser included. Maybe we have a very different perception of what lag is? Or maybe you have an insane amount of background processes running that bogs down your phone?
Camera is not great, but I always have a good time looking back at pictures taken with it and it is certainly much, much better than what I took 10 years, let alone 20. If your flip phone took better pictures, something is wrong and there could be ways to fix that.

The whole notion of dismissing information because it's from a state media source is so bonkers. In my relentless pursuit of trying to coax more performance out of my Lemmy instance I read that PostgreSQL heavily relies on the OSs disk cache for read performance. I've got 16 GB of RAM and two hdds in RAID 1. I've PostgreSQL configured to use 12 GB of RAM and I've zram swap set up with 8 GB.
But according to htop PostgreSQL ia using only about 4 GB. My swap gets hardly touched. And read performance is awful. Opening my profile regularly times out. Only when it's worked ones does it load quickly until I don't touch it again for half an hour or so.
Now, my theory is that the zram actually takes available RAM away from the disk cache, thus slowing the whole system down. My googling couldn't bring me the answer because it only showed me how to set up zram in the first place.
Lower the postgre to 8GB and see what happens? Also, hard drives, ssds, or nvme ssds? Recent info suggests it is possible memcaching is actually slower than direct access to nvme ssd
You're probably correct, although I have no experience with zram so can't be sure. But you're absolutely right that PostgreSQL depends heavily on the OS disk cache for optimal performance. Lowering the PostgreSQL setting like Blaster M suggests won't improve performance much, since all that setting does is tell PostgreSQL's algorithms how much memory is likely to be allocated to the OS disk cache. Of course it's best if it's accurate, so you're best off seeing how much memory is actually allocated to disk cache under heavy use before setting it, but it shouldn't massively reduce performance if you don't get it right.

DOJ Deletes Study Showing Domestic Terrorists Are Most Often Right Wing
The Department of Justice has removed a study showing that white supremacist and far-right violence “continues to outpace all other types of terrorism and domestic violent extremism” in the United States.
The study, which was conducted by the National Institute of Justice and hosted on a DOJ website was available there at least until September 12, 2025, according to an archive of the page saved by the Wayback Machine.
“The Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs is currently reviewing its websites and materials in accordance with recent Executive Orders and related guidance,” reads a message on the page where the study was formerly hosted. “During this review, some pages and publications will be unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Shortly after Donald Trump took office he issued an executive order that forced government agencies to scrub their sites of any mention of “diversity,” “gender,” “DEI,” and other “forbidden words” and perceived notions of “wokeness.” The executive order impacted every government agency, including NASA, and was a huge waste of engineers’ time.
We don’t know why the study about far-right extremist violence was removed recently, but it comes immediately after the assassination of conservative personality Charlie Kirk, accusations from the administration that the left is responsible for most of the political violence in the country, and a renewed commitment from the administration to crack down on the “radical left.”
“For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass murderers and criminals,” Trump said in a speech after Kirk’s death. “This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country today, and it must stop right now. My administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it.”
Elon Musk, who owns X, recently tweeted that he was going to “fix” the platform’s AI assistant Grok after it cited research that showed right-wing violence was more common than left-wing violence: “My apologies, we are fixing this cringe idiocy by Grok,” he said.

“Since 1990, far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists, including 227 events that took more than 520 lives,” the study said. “In this same period, far-left extremists committed 42 ideologically motivated attacks that took 78 lives.”
The DOJ did not immediately respond to our request for comment. Steven Chermak, one of the study’s co-authors, declined to comment.

An Israeli air strike hit a car carrying displaced civilians fleeing Gaza City on Tuesday, killing at least five Palestinians and wounding several others.
The strike hit the vehicle near al-Katiba Mosque in the Old City, west of Gaza, leaving it engulfed in flames.
Footage from the scene shows plumes of smoke rising from the car as civilians scream and rush to help the victims.
Several people lie motionless on the ground, bloodied and wounded from the blast, while others scramble to extinguish the fire.

Introducing CrowdBucks
CrowdBucks is a new effort developed by Charles Iliya Krempeaux, better known by his online moniker, Reiver. It builds on some of the ideas previous implementations have tried, and aims to make the process as smooth and simple as possible.

Signing Up
Instead of forcing users to create yet another account, CrowdBucks does something really smart: you can just sign in with an existing Fediverse account.
At the moment, sign-in is limited to just Mastodon, but the plan is to gradually support a number of different platforms. Since a lot of Fediverse software implements part of the Mastodon API, I attempted to log in with both Akkoma and WordPress, but neither one seems to work yet. We opted to use a tried-and-true community instance.
After doing the Authorization dance, CrowdBucks directs users to a simple dashboard, where they are prompted to do basic setup for their page. Fediverse integration automatically pulls in profile details, including the username, avatar, header, and handle, although most of the public-facing details can be customized.
Getting Set Up
The first thing to do with your account is to set fundraising goals and donation tiers. The flow feels reminiscent of something like Kickstarter or Patreon, where rewards can be spelled out as something symbolic, something digital, or even something tangible. Donations and Payments
Support tiers can be set up with any monthly denomination, and these get prominently displayed on your CrowdBucks page. Donors can use their CrowdBucks accounts to find a page, select a tier, and support creators and projects easily.
When a person pledges towards a Tier, they’re automatically taken to a checkout page. For the time being, the only supported Payment Processor is Stripe. Reiver has explained that this is because Stripe was easiest to implement, but the team intends to also add support for PayPal and other providers, as well as support for standards such as Web Monetization and OpenPayments.

CrowdBucks was initially revealed in a brief demo at FediCon a few weeks ago, which was recorded and added alongside the FediCon Talks on PeerTube. It’s a useful insight into where Reiver is coming from, what’s being built, and ideas of what CrowdBucks could be used for.
“Anyone will be able to set up their own CrowdBucks server,” Reiver explains, “just like anyone can set up their own Mastodon server.”
The CrowdBucks project itself is licensed under the GNU AGPL, with source code readily available. The CrowdBucks.fund site is simply operated as a flagship instance, but the goal is to allow anyone to host their own version as part of their operational infrastructure.
“We want CrowdBucks to help pay server bills, to support developers building Fedi software, and to fund creators on the Fediverse. The whole thing is designed to be native to the Fediverse.”
Future Plans
While the project itself is still fairly young, the team is actively thinking about how to improve. One area CrowdBucks is already exploring involves the ability for the app to post to the Fediverse on the behalf of fundraisers, for example, to give credit to supporters. Another possibility might involve collaborating with Emissary to standardize pieces involving payments and private access.
