US revokes visa of Colombia’s Petro after he called on soldiers to disobey Trump
Petro, who has previously clashed with the Trump administration on migration and drug trafficking issues, repeated his call for an armed force to “free Palestine” while addressing a group of pro-Palestine supporters outside the United Nations headquarters on Friday.
“It (the global force) has to be bigger than that of the United States. That’s why from here, from New York, I ask all the soldiers of the army of the US not to point their rifles at humanity,” Petro is heard saying in a video posted to social media. “Disobey the orders of Trump. Obey the orders of humanity,” he added
In response, Petro said the United States’ decision “breaks all the norms of immunity on which the functioning of the United Nations and its General Assembly is based.”
“The fact that the Palestinian Authority was not allowed entry and that my visa was revoked for asking the US and Israeli armies not to support a genocide, which is a crime against all humanity, demonstrates that the US government no longer complies with international law,” he posted on X.

Cosa si cuce nel fediverso?
Ciao a tutti 😀

More than half of Americans say the country’s best days are already behind it
CNN’s poll finds that more than half of political independents are either dissatisfied with or indifferent to both political parties – but different blocs of independents hold notably different attitudes. And within the parties, people are more vehement in their dislike of the opposition than in their enthusiasm for their own party. The Democratic Party last saw positive ratings from a solid majority of the country in February 2009, while the Republican Party last saw a favorability rating of 55% or higher in February 2005.
It’s been 23 years since Americans gave both parties ratings that were broadly positive at the same time.

Recognition of Palestine is a repeat of the West’s Oslo 'peace' fraud
The reluctant recognition of Palestinian statehood by Britain, France, Australia, and Canada this week is a con - it is the same switch and bait that has been blocking the creation of a Palestinian state for three decades now.
At Israel’s insistence, let us note, the Oslo accords carefully avoided any mention of the ultimate destination of this process. Nonetheless, the message from western politicians and media was the same: this was heading towards a Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel.
Looking back, it is evident why that did not happen when it still looked feasible. The Israeli leader of the time, Yitzhak Rabin, told the Israeli parliament that his vision was not of a state but of "an entity which is less than a state": a glorified Palestinian local authority utterly dependent on its bigger neighbour, Israel, for its security and economic survival.
In typical fashion, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the announcement as he pulled the rug from under his own act of recognition by dictating what kind of state Palestine would have to be. Not a sovereign one, in which the Palestinian people made their own decisions, but one that echoed Rabin’s “entity less than a state”.
Starmer insisted Hamas - Gaza’s elected government and one of Palestine’s two main political factions – could play no part in running this state. The Palestinian state would also, of course, have no military to defend itself from the genocidal state next door.A report this week in the Telegraph indicates that, even after formal recognition, Starmer is still imposing new conditions designed to hollow out his declaration.
They include: demands for new Palestinian elections - elections that can only take place with Israel’s permission, which it will not give; an overhaul of any latent Palestinian nationalism Israel objects to in the Palestinian education system, even as Israel’s own education system has long been laced with genocidal incitement; a requirement that the Palestinian Authority not compensate families of anyone Israel declares a "terrorist" - which pretty much covers any Palestinian killed or jailed by Israel.

Palestinian statehood: Recognition amidst erasure? (25min Vid)
After almost 2 years of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Western powers have issued synchronised declarations recognising Palestinian statehood – a diplomatic move seemingly born out of the immense public pressure they face. What’s missing from the story is the concrete measures those governments could take to stop the slaughter in Gaza, as well as their complicity by continuing to supply weapons to Israel.

CHICAGO, Illinois — On September 16, 2025, Joe Botello, an Elgin, Illinois, man born in the United States, was zip-tied, questioned, and had his front doors shattered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. He was one of four men shown on a video released by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who was present at the raid. Botello was let go later after showing proof of citizenship.“I’m just blessed that I’m still alive,” Botello said. “I’ve been hearing it and seeing it through social media. But it never crossed my mind that it was going to happen here at the house … where I live.”
The raid came amid escalating threats by U.S. president Donald Trump that he would target this city by sending in federal troops to “fight crime.” While troops have not yet been deployed, an immigration crackdown by ICE is already underway. “Operation Midway Blitz” began in early September, mostly in Chicago’s suburbs with large immigrant populations like Elgin.

How do you handle emulator controls when using a controller?
One thing I’ve run into as I’ve been playing some of my retro games is that, when using a controller with an Nvidia Shield + Moonlight or even with just a Steam Deck, the emulators often have a massive amount of controls that I can’t really interact with. All of the controls are hotkey based, for save states, loading states, etc.
Most of the games I’m wanting to play are controller based, but it feels like the tools to enjoy them are all keyboard based. Do you just use the built in save functionalities? How does it all work?

Washington backing plan for Tony Blair to head transitional Gaza authority
The White House is backing a plan that would see Tony Blair head a temporary administration of the Gaza Strip – initially without the direct involvement of the Palestinian Authority (PA), according to Israeli media reports.
Under the proposal, Blair would lead a body called the Gaza International Transitional Authority (Gita) that would have a mandate to be Gaza’s “supreme political and legal authority” for as long as five years.
But any role for the former Labour leader would inevitably prompt intense controversy. After stepping down as prime minister in 2007, he took on the role of Middle East envoy until 2015 and he enjoys a high standing with many Gulf leaders. But Blair is bitterly resented by many Palestinians – who see him as having impeded their efforts to attain statehood – and more broadly across the region for his role in backing the 2003 US invasion of Iraq.

in reply to ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆ • • •Those are excellent use cases for AI, but it is also not a magic bullet. It cannot do everything for you, and often it can leave you a strike, especially if you're not willing to fact check it. It's a well-known fact that LLMs hallucinate, or straight up lie to you about what they know. So in many niche cases, which is what I am doing and what we hire this guy to do, it's often not effective. Just as often as it gives a silver bullet, it is often effectively wrong.
I have seen this dude use code and use AI to say things that are absolutely not true, like claiming setting a very high UID can resize a Docker image to an an absurd level nearing 500 gigabytes.
He also tried to use it to lecture me on how the auditors don't audit our company correctly and how we're actually doing things completely wrong and that he's the guy to fix it all and that'll take him just a little bit to train everybody up to shape.
LLM tools are excellent when treated with respect and the limitations of the tool is understood but unfortunately, far too many people believe it is a magic talking box that always knows everything and always has the right solution. 😮💨
I mean, this joker is so ridiculous that he can't even figure out how to use the AWS CLI correctly or how to setup "deploy" repo github keys. We asked him if he was comfortable working with puppet, or at least capable of figuring it out, and he looked like we asked him to touch a hot stove. Did I mention this joker has 15 years of experience doing stuff like this?
When I was looking at his code, it reeks of AI with anti-patterns I normally only see by strictly generated llm code.
☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆
in reply to dastanktal • • •I think we're in complete agreement here. These things are not magic, they're tools that have limitations. I also think they're best used by devs who already have a lot of experience. If you couldn't write the code yourself without the tool, you have no business using it. It can't do the thinking for you, and just because it sounds convincing that shouldn't be mistaken for it having any sort of intelligence of its own.
I've seen plenty of people do terrible things with LLMs as well. Honestly though, it's not that different from what I've seen people do manually. For example, I've seen many inexperienced devs just start adding kludges to their code instead of stepping back and rethinking the design to make an underlying problem go away more times than I care to count. LLMs just act as an accelerant here allowing people to make a bigger mess faster.
The fact that somebody with 15 years of experience would be so bad at coding is the real story here though. Reminds me how I interviewed a dev with supposed 5 years experience one time, and they couldn't figure out how to reverse a string cause they didn't know how loops worked. That kind of stuff really makes you wonder about the industry as a whole.
