Moderation decisions are made by consensus, after discussing reports and using the Code of Conduct for guidance. Many reports related to spam. Other common reports (mostly involving off Instance accounts) include trolling, racism, transphobia, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

Today in Labor History September 4, 1970: Socialist Salvador Allende was elected President of Chile. As president, he tried to nationalize major industries, expand education and improve conditions for the working class. On September 11, 1973 (the other 9/11), he was ousted in a coup by Augusto Pinochet, leading to a dictatorship that lasted until 1990. Thousands of workers, socialists, union members and activists were killed, including folk singer Victor Jara, who continued to sing, as his torturers beat him up, mashed his fingers in front of thousands of other prisoners in the Estadio Chile. He sang “Venceremos” (We Shall Win) through split lips. Before being riddled with 40 bullets, he managed to compose the song “Estadio Chile” and get it smuggled out; "How hard it is to sing when I must sing of horror. / Horror which I am living, horror which I am dying." The coup and dictatorship were supported by the CIA, and by President Nixon, and by the Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, who later won the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Department of Justice has opened a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook - and has issued multiple subpoenas as part of the inquiry into whether she committed mortgage fraud, according to the wsj.com/politics/policy/lisa-c…

The probe - for which a grand jury has been assembled, will begin by looking at Cook's properties in Ann Arbor, Michigan and Atlanta. It comes on the heels of two criminal investigations from Federal Housing Finance Agency director Bill Pulte, who has been dropping receipts for weeks with evidence that Cook committed fraud - including claiming two properties as her "primary residence" - as well as claiming that a rented out zerohedge.com/political/feds-l…
was her 'second home' - all things that would qualify her for better rates and tax treatment.
Pulte accused Cook of misleading banks on multiple mortgage applications to receive favorable lending terms, such as lower interest rates, typically given to a buyer who intends to occupy the home they purchase.
A judge is considering Cook’s request for an emergency order stopping her from being removed from the Fed board while the case proceeds. The Fed’s next meeting is set to begin Sept. 16. -WSJ
Last Thursday, Cook filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration after President Donald Trump fired her that Monday 'for cause.' Among the excuses contained in the lawsuit for alleged mortgage fraud was a possible clerical error.
Except, Cook described herself in her 2023 nomination hearing as having "significant experience in banking and finance, as is evidenced by my service on the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and of a Community Development Financial Institution in Michigan, in addition to my employment at an investment bank and a large commercial bank."
What's more, the Federal Reserve Act allows the president to fire Fed governors 'for cause' - which the Trump administration claims applies. In a Tuesday court filing, Cook's lawyers said she "did not ever commit mortgage fraud."
Pulte shot down any notion that the fed wasn't political in a Thursday appearance on CNBC, saying "I don't believe for the last 4 years that the Fed has been independent."

Sometimes I think we get too hyperfocused on original content and plagiarism and being The Original Inventor. The entire history of human art, language, science etc is "hey, here's these cool and interesting things this other person did, I think I can remix it and add my own stuff to it and make it something different."
Copyright and patents were created as a concept that they could create legal protection allowing small people to make a living on "intellectual property", but like everything, it's become irrevocably corrupted by capitalists using it against people to actually prevent innovation and remixing and creating.
Fanfiction spinoffs of Star Wars can't be sold without inciting the wrath of Disney Lawyers, and even when given away live in a very fragile grey market. Reverse engineer a patch for a Microsoft product, and get sued. Reimplement a Java API and spend billions and a decade fighting Oracle. Want to do a simple chemical synthesis to make a lifesaving medication at a fraction of the price? Go to jail.
Like it's not even worth it. It stifles human creativity and progress by letting corps own every product of our minds.
What artists want is not IP, what artists want is something like "the moral rights of the artist". Their confusion between the two has led to some anarchists being angry with me.
(Artists, like anyone, also want to not starve etc, but that's not really a special case.)
