All I want is for them to make their existing products not suck. Not chase LLMs (if it's not E2E encrypted with proper isolation, I don't see a reason why someone would pick it over any other provider, Mind2, ollama + Open Web UI, etc.) or for god sake, kill off Proton Wallet.
Give me:
1. Proton Drive for Linux (I know, they're working on an SDK, looking forward to it in 2099).
2. Better photo and content organization in Proton Drive and Proton Photos.
3. Improvements to Proton Pass that make it easier to create new entries with all the different entry types they support. Or make 2FA easier to access instead of creating yet another app (Proton Authenticator).
4. Ability to grab multiple files from Proton Drive at a time without it forcing them into a ZIP file first.
If I didn't know any better, I'd assume KPIs for employees at Proton were measured by how many new things they can release and how many features in their existing products they can avoid implementing.

It is good that they’re owned by a non profit, but so were/are OpenAI and Firefox. Actions speak louder than words or business structure.
Tbf though, Proton overall seems to be trending in the right direction and a force for good. They’ve just made a few, pretty public missteps that are worth talking about and being aware of.

(I exaggerate, it’s sustainable, it is rather that with this approach you grow faster and end up being able to also do more for users who only care about existing features)

This is a testimony of your quality and reliability. Because I have used nextcloud for years and before that owncloud, I have recommended the use of it for our company and we do not regret it.
However there are some annoyances that would be worth fixing before pleasing the marketing team.

I dont have a cloud, just a machine in my garage. Just like, probably, the majority of your users in "count" (probably not in paid support)

Note that you sure as heck don't have to juggle containers - we did a bit of a dirty thing with the AIO - it is one docker container that manages other containers. It's quite nice for what it is, I moved myself a while ago from zip to AIO and this setup is far more robust, easier to maintain AND has more features.

in reply to Jos Poortvliet • • •@f4grx @phillip @me the container/cloud purists are not a fan of what we did, but for the exact case you describe - somebody who wants minimal work and isn't a cloud/kubernetes/whatever guru, the AIO is absolutely perfect. My LAMP setup did break once a year or so due to some component mismatch or wrong update or so. Never Nextcloud itself, but always another part - OS, SSL, whatever.
The AIO is ZERO maintenance. I swear.

I would never use theirs or any other competing chatbot. The real worry is how these systems consume massive planetary resources, contributing to climate change. Every other concern, including my privacy, pales in comparison.

They hire offshore developers for as cheap as possible, and exploit international wage differences while selling their services at a premium making you think it's all made in Switzerland.
The only thing made in Switzerland that Proton makes is probably his mansion.
But I guess most people wouldn't ever know this. I know because I applied to Proton once and they changed me from Switzerland to North Macedonia for a fraction of the Swiss salary.

Also, it doesn't change anything for the other products so just don't use the bot and you are good.
Finally, they are planning to potentially move out of Switzerland because the laws are changing and they will do that to protect their users.
