Nicht nur, dass diese Software unsere Daten für die deutschen Sicherheitsbehörden zusammen führt und auswertet – nein – Palantir ist ein US Unternehmen. Noch dazu gehört es, wie bereits erwähnt, dem amerikanischen Rechtsextremisten Peter Thiel. Mindestens er kann in unsere Daten hinein schauen. Aber nicht nur er. Nach dem US Cloud Act müssen US Unternehmen Daten, auch wenn sie im Ausland liegen, an die US Sicherheitsbehörden herausgeben. Deutschland macht sich mit der Nutzung dieser US Software wieder und weiter von den USA abhängig.
In Bayern wird diese Software bereits von der Polizei genutzt. Bislang sind 30 Millionen Menschen in Bayern in dem System gespeichert. Da diese Zahl über der Gesamtzahl der Menschen in Bayern liegt, müssen wir annehmen, dass auch Reisende, die in Bayern ein oder aussteigen von dem System erfasst werden.
Ein Gangsterstück hat die CDU in Baden-Württemberg mit dieser Software vollbracht. Ohne eine Genehmigung durch die schwarz-grüne Koalition im Land wurde dort ein Vertrag mit Palantir unterzeichnet. Anstatt die Verantwortlichen zur Rechenschaft zu ziehen und den Vertrag rückgängig zu machen hat Ministerpräsident Kretschmer nun die Seiten gewechselt und verteidigt die Nutzung dieser Software im Ländle.
Doch noch können wir den bundesweiten Einsatz von Palantir verhindern. Schon über 300.000 Menschen haben den Appell von Campact gegen das Spähprogramm unterzeichnet. Justizministerin Stefanie Hubig (SPD) sieht Palantir kritisch. Und auch andere Sozialdemokrat*innen lehnen den Einsatz der Überwachungssoftware ab. Nun kommt es auf die SPD an: Bleibt sie standhaft oder knickt sie vor ihrem Koalitionspartner ein? Wenn wir Hubig jetzt den Rücken stärken, kann sie Palantir stoppen.

A2: Computers feature pretty heavily in my making. Nearly all my research is done on the internet, I use Pinterest to compile references and mood boards, I use photo editors to figure out scale, I draw vectors and build 3D models on them, and there's probably a lot more that I don't even think about.
A bit, as a tool to find patterns, look for inspiration, and record my makes on my blog. Oh, wait, I scan all my photo negatives, so even though I take photos the analogue way, they still end up as digital files that I have to tweak on the computer. I use an iPad and an iPhone for checking pictures, looking up designs and taking pictures of my work (and chatting to you lovely people) but an actual computer only on the very rare occasions I want to print something out. I use the computer *all the time* for work so my making is my screen free time.

It is fair to say computers in one sort or another are the tools, the raw materials, the inspiration, the references, and in some cases even the product of my making!
computers are great for finding and downloading PDF patterns, turning photos into pixels that I can turn into knitting patterns and accessing my pattern libraries

A2: They don’t. I don’t want them to either.
Unless you count trawling eBay for potential restoration projects (and other accoutrements and trinketry that I shouldn’t be buying). That’s pre-making though, not making-making.

#MakersHour A2: I do most of my writing, yarn buying, and knitting pattern finding online. And knitting and crochet are the only disciplines I think video tutorials actually work for.
A2 depends how you define computer. And depends how you define involve. Most of my projects involve research on a computer of some kind. Some involve some sort of design phase using CAD, some involve CAM (3d printing, laser cutting). Others once I've printed the drawings out the only computer involvement is the DRO on the machine tools... And the phone I use to take photos documenting it... And then the blog I write about my making...
I am a computer nerd, have been for 3+ decades and much of my life revolves around the blighted things. I will spec out, type up words at least, as part of planning most things I do. I use 3D and 2D CAD for planning and can design my own stuff for 3D printing and CNC. Of course both those devices basically have computers in them, and talk to computers. I write code on a computer for the microcontroller (also a computer) electronics I build. I type this very message and take many many photos with the computer I am holding (aka a "phone")... photos are actually a key thing for me, my thinking and memory are very visual (yet U cannot actual draw freehand for shit.)
A hell of a lot, and almost never Windows or Macs. If you remember the computers of the 1980s and wonder what a modern day version could do, get yourself a Raspberry Pi or similar, the BBC Micros of the modern world! (Current projects: A RasPi based internet radio, and an Arduino based bin night reminder bot)
A2: I often use computers for designing artwork for screen printing. Usually a lot of text so it fun to play around with different fonts and such like this wanted poster camp t shirt.
I find tutorials for stitches I don't know how to do online and pictures if I'm making a knitty based on a specific character. And I write on a computer. #MakersHour
A2. For embroidery, a great deal, after discovering laser printable soluble self-adhesive transfer paper sheets. Monochrome natural history illustrations are a good pattern source, like the Valley Quail from Birds of Yosemite, cropped and resized from a scanned book illustration. For some projects, patterns via web shops or Etsy. For the pieced cloth ball projects, the square and hexagon templates for paper piecing at a specific size. For most projects, sharing update pictures to social media (Mastodon, very occasionally Facebook).
Noting here re the "computers" question that I work in crewel stitch, usually with DMC cotton floss, not with counted cross-stitch on a grid canvas. (which has more obvious computer affinities via the grid planning)

A2. Well, seeing as it's my job... a lot! Code is useful for all kinds of things. In the reverse direction, I learned CAD strictly for fun, and it ended up being useful at work, too. I got a HAM radio license just to have a structured way to learn more electronics, and that's been incredibly fun too.
I also deliberately do things that have no computers involved, like hand sewing and throwing pottery. It's kind of a both extremes situation, I guess.

I use a computer to view the online materials for a weekly watercolor class I take a few times a year; to join the online, real time paint-along class, to view reference photos, and to post to a group of fellow students—many of whom are “groupies” of the teacher, myself included
I also use tech (a tablet) to mark up the reference photos to help me approach the painting
