Il coordinamento del Gruppo Insegnanti di Geografia Autorganizzati – Giga esprime profondo cordoglio per l’improvvisa scomparsa dell’amico fraterno e collaboratore Aldo Zanchetta.
Intellettuale eterodosso, attivista e cooperante infaticabile ha fatto dell’impegno sociale e a favore dei popoli oppressi la cifra della sua esistenza.
Autore, traduttore e curatore di numerosi saggi di intellettuali latinoamericani fra cui l’uruguayano Raul Zibechi e il messicano Gustavo Esteva. Ha inoltre curato la traduzione e la pubblicazione della biografia del leader indigeno “bianco” peruviano Hugo Blanco “Noi gli indios. Le lotte per la terra in Perù” del quale continuava a sostenerne il periodico da lui stesso diretto, “Lucha indigena”.
Aldo si è distinto per la cooperazione e il sostegno attivo verso i popoli amerindi latinoamericani, soprattutto del Messico e del Perù, principalmente tramite la fondazione “Neno Zanchetta”, dedicata al figlio scomparso in gioventù e da lui stesso fondata e diretta a tal fine.
Ed è probabilmente in Chiapas, dove ha soggiornato a lungo e creato una sincera amicizia con il vescovo locale Samuel Ruiz, che ha svolto la sua principale opera di cooperazione realizzando fra le varie anche la Escuolita zapatista, una struttura dedicata alla formazione di maestri per il sistema scolastico zapatista. Modello di istruzione che valorizza i principi amerindi presente nei villaggi zapatisti e benché non finanziato dal governo federale risulta evidentemente più efficiente e attrattivo di quello statale, visto che è frequentato da bambini provenienti anche da villaggi non zapatisti.
Intellettuale eterodosso e raffinato ha rappresentato un punto di riferimento per i docenti del Giga interessati ad approfondire le tematiche legate all’America Latina e in particolare de “Los de abbajo” (quelli di sotto), come recita un suo imperdibile saggio sulla variegata realtà degli oppressi.
Sempre disponibile ed entusiasta nell’incontrare i nostri studenti a scuola, anche da anziano riusciva a catturane l’attenzione in modo sorprendente e ad affascinarli con i suoi racconti dei viaggi nelle comunità amerindie. Inoltre, era solito lasciare sempre in omaggio suoi libri per le biblioteche scolastiche a beneficio di chi fosse interessato ad approfondire le conoscenze dei temi trattati.
Ingegnere chimico laureato a Pisa, di professione imprenditore nel ramo della sostenibilità ambientale e umana dei prodotti, ha lavorato a lungo in America Latina affiancando all’impegno professionale la conoscenza delle realtà sociali e indigene represse.
Uomo di grande generosità e di impegno infaticabile una volta in pensione, dopo aver donato i brevetti delle sue innovazioni personalmente a Fidel Castro, si è dedicato alla cultura con numerose pubblicazioni e attività formative, all’impegno politico rivestendo anche carica di vicesindaco nel comune di Capannori (Lu), e soprattutto alla cooperazione internazionale a favore dei popoli amerindi e in particolare degli zapatisti del Chiapas.
Il coordinamento del Giga si stringe in questo momento di grande dolore alla moglie Brunella, alle figlie e ai nipoti.
Aldo lascia un vuoto immenso nel mondo della cultura e nel cuore di chi ha avuto la fortuna di averlo come amico.
Che la terra ti sia lieve, caro Aldo.

In terms of form factor, Fisher & Paykel DishDrawers really suit us: you effectively get two half dishwashers, so you can easily run a half load, run one while you're still filling the other, etc. We had them at our old house years ago and they were awesome. They were also the most accessible dishwasher I've encountered by design: they had tactile buttons, and even though some of the buttons cycled between options, there were different beeps when you wrapped around to the start of the options, so if you couldn't see the screen, you could choose what you wanted easily once familiar.
So when our old dishwasher died last week, it was a clear choice: we'd get DishDrawers. There's always a risk that new models will regress accessibility, and unfortunately, it's pretty difficult to test or find out about stuff like this. But this new model also has WiFi connectivity, so I figured that would work as a fallback at least.
It turns out that they're all capacitive touch buttons; i.e. not tactile, no press. Worse, there are no distinct beeps when you wrap around to the first option, etc.
So I resigned myself to using the app, which is surprisingly very accessible. But... no go there either. Because of a safety feature you can't disable, you have to enable remote start using the (inaccessible) buttons on the dishwasher. Remote start gets auto disabled when the door is opened, after the next wash completes or after 72 hours, whichever comes first.
At best, that makes this thing extremely tedious for me to use. I can stick tactile dots above or below the buttons, but even then, it's easy to accidentally touch a button while you're looking for them and you can easily choose the wrong option due to the lack of useful audible feedback. I already have this problem with our air fryer and it frustrates the hell out of me. But I guess it just is what it is, as is so often the case.
The worst part is that they took a reasonably accessible product and made it inaccessible. And for what? Visually pleasing touch buttons that probably don't even function when you have wet hands (because surely people don't have wet hands in a kitchen?). It's Thermomix all over again. And the message these companies send is clear: "we don't care about people with disabilities at all. We don't even give it a thought."
I called Fisher & Paykel to see if there's anything they can do and it's been escalated to their tech team, but I'm not holding my breath, especially because the inability to permanently enable remote start is a deliberate safety choice. I'm just so, so tired of struggling with and fighting these battles every. Single. Day. I barely even have the energy to be angry. The temptation to just give up is immense.

A dishwasher that can or needs an internet connection absolute no go.
Crappy sensors which only function sometimes and not with wet hands.

There is so much untested trash sold as advancement, why because engineers are scared to tell their bosses to F Off because that great new idea is just flashy shit.
