I have some assorted white clothes, mostly panties, that long ago have lost the whiteness and look sad and crummy now. regular washing with these new types of "oxy" whiteners didn't help. hanging in the sun (whatever little there is) while soaped didn't help. so I decided to try old-fashioned bleach (as in chlorine) and if it damaged the clothes, so be it, wasn't using them anyway.
left the lot soaking in warm water + chlorine for ca. 90min, then washed them in the washing maschine. the result was:
- a small amount of them is now distinctly whiter, especially synthetics
- another small amount wasn't significantly affected
- and the majority of them got pink stains.
among the pink category, some got exactly the elastic band uniformly pinker, while others (like a white bra I used to like) got random stains across the surface.
this got me curious, like it's not the first time I see this, but why *is* it that bleach + white clothes = pink anyway? (continued…)

Do you know about Fado? I didn't until I started searching for alternative music from queer artists and found Fado Bicha.
So the Fado is a portuguese traditional genre which blends melanchonic themes with a strong vocal presence, which is traditionally female.
So they said what, why can't we sing Fado, we've got the skills, and we sure have stuff to say, queer people have it and we want to be represented in the traditional music genres!
And they do it! I love them! I'm all about theatrical music, I'm a bit of drama queer myself, but their voice perfectly carries all the struggles and harshness of life for queer people, I feel the need to sing with them to cathartically expel all the pain and frustrations.
And I'm in a phase of high distrust of men, so they are quite good.

Wir machen uns hier alle Gedanken um die Umwelt und dann wird mit Steuergeldern die Meyer Werft unterstützt und die baut riesige Kreuzfahrtschiffe.
Die neue Rekordhalterin, die Star of the Seas" von Royal Caribbean, das zweite Schiff der Icon Klass, ist gerade zu ihrer Jungfernfahrt aufgebrochen. In der Maximalbelegung wären 7600 Passagier*innen möglich, bei Doppelbelegung der Kabinen sind es 5600.
Das dritte Schiff ist im Bau, es ist die neue Legends of the Seas und ein weiteres ist in Planung. Alle werden mit LNG betrieben.

Es sei erwähnt, dass mit dieser Schiffsklasse einige Innovationen bei der Antriebstechnik realisiert werden:
Die Kreuzfahrtschiffe dieser Klasse setzen auf einen vergleichsweise emissionsarmen Antrieb durch Brennstoffzellen und Flüssigerdgas.
Das reicht natürlich noch nicht, geht aber in die richtige Richtung und ein Weg beginnt immer mit dem ersten Schritt.
@feb Ja, das auf alle Fälle. Schifffahrt wird auch ein Baustein im Kampf gegen den Klimawandel sein.
Aber diese Riesenschiffe bringen ja noch mehr Probleme mit sich als nur CO2.
Moin @feb , wie kann denn ein Schiffsantrieb mit LNG - bekanntlich fossil und unter großen Schmerzen für Umwelt, Natur und lebende Spezies produziert - innovativ, also gut sein?
Wirklich progressiv und klimafreundlich wären Segel. Vortrieb mit Windenergie. Und Stromversorgung mit Photovoltaik.
Vielleicht ist das auch Thema bei den Hamburg Cruise Days am kommenden Wochenende bzw. bei der Gegenveranstaltung

With regard to Charlie, I hope that, following a majority of independence supporting parties, if Westminster doesn’t respond he should use his constitutional responsibility as head of state to force their hand.

Constitutional decisions are not policy decisions.
You also alienate those who do not agree with your vision of the new country.

Everything else including decisions like whether we should have two chambers or one, whether we should have a head of state, and how elections will be run must be left for decision by the new independent country not formulated beforehand .
The awful parliament building at the foot of Holyood Road was the result of one man’s vision, not the will of the parliament.
