I also know that to land this job, I've got to be looking and feeling my best. I need to throw myself into my work as hard as I can during the next couple of weeks.
It's going to be difficult for me to do so when I'm stressed to the max about housing, food, and the spare tire that I still have not had a fucking chance to get replaced yet.
I am literally months overdue for a haircut and beard trim.
I've been wearing the same pair of pants for two weeks now because of the housing chaos and most of my clothes accidentally ending up in a storage unit that is the other point in a triangle between our current hotel location and my work location that straddles the entire valley and I haven't been able to return to in several days.
Of those clothes, a fair portion are starting to wear out. I also need to invest in undershirts so I'm not prematurely wearing out my work shirts.
Therefore, my immediate priorities are as follows:
1. Finally get that damned tire replaced.
2. Haircut and trim so I don't look like Albert Einstein with less charisma
3. Buy some undershirts and maybe a couple of outer shirts to replace ones that I've ruined with sweat stains
4. Groceries

Der Hochsommer weicht langsam, aber spürbar. Solange die Nächte noch zweistellig sind, darf man nicht jammern, sagt eine alte Seglerinnenweisheit. Das kommt noch früh genug.
Aber die Selbstverständlichkeit ist gegangen. Die Selbstverständlichkeit mit der ich in Birkenstock und kurze Hosen geschlüpft bin die letzten Wochen. Ich habe letzte Woche sogar kurz eine Übergangsjacke angezogen. Mich dann aber gewehrt und sie wieder auf den Haken gehängt, an dem sich Schuster eine Seilbahn gebaut haben über das vor Kraft strotzende Sommerhalbjahr.
Ich weigere mich trotzdem, Anfang September schon von Herbst zu sprechen, wie so viele von euch. Hej, die Meteorologen sind faul, das hat nix mit Herbst zu tun, was sie so nennen — genausowenig wie zum Frühlingsanfang (leider).
Herbst, das ist für mich Nieselregen aus West, Schnöf und klamme sieben Grad.
Ich hab noch nie verstanden, wie man sich Anfang September sich schon Schals anziehen kann. Und Mützen in Laubfarben.
Der Hafenmeister ist gedanklich schon seit Ende Juni im November, dann ist für ihn die Saison vorbei. Ein Ziel, das er mit keinem anderen teilt.
Wir anderen ignorieren das Ende der warmen Saison und messen nun in Restwochenenden, in denen es nochmal „schön“ werden könnte, also noch einmal so, wie es bis jetzt selbstverständlich war — selbst im nordischen Sommer.
Dabei ist der stetige Verlust der Kraft nicht zu ignorieren. Eben noch bullenstark, merken wir, wie sich kühle Feuchte schon spätnachmittags über das Deck legt.
Ich habe heute morgen das Hexagramm 17 geworfen.
Es will mir sagen, dass ich meine Kämpfe wählen soll, haushalten, meinen Pfad wählen. Dem Fluss der Dinge folgen — oder vielleicht Dieter? — ohne Widerstand. Denn die Zeit des robusten Gegenhaltens gegen alles scheint vorbei zu gehen.
In meinem Ohr kreischt jemand.

Capture and Plot Serial Data in the Browser
If you’re working with a microcontroller that reads a sensor, the chances are that at some point you’re faced with a serial port passing out continuous readings. The workflow of visualizing this data can be tedious, involving a cut-and-paste from a terminal to a CSV file. What if there were a handy all-in-one serial data visualization tool, a serial data oscilloscope, if you will? [Atomic14] has you covered, with the web serial plotter.
It’s a browser-based tool that uses the WebSerial API, so sadly if you’re a Firefox user you’re not invited to the party. Serial data can be plotted and exported, and there are a range of options for viewing. Behind the scenes there’s some Node and React magic happening, but should you wish to avoid getting your hands dirty there’s an online demo you can try.
Looking at it we’re ashamed to have been labouring under a complex workflow, particularly as we find this isn’t the first to appear on these pages.

Just chilling with Breakout: Recharged on my Steam Deck.
I don’t love it as much as Centipede: Recharged—but it’s still excellent, because let’s be real: it’s almost impossible to screw up Breakout. This one leans heavily into Arkanoid territory, with power-ups that let you fire shots or unleash multi-ball chaos. Even if it doesn’t reach the heights of Centipede, it’s still pure fun.

Die mehr als 50 Jahre alte Flotte der US-"Doomsday"-Flugzeuge wird ausgemustert. Ersetzt werden sollen sie durch neue Boeings des Typs E4-C.

I'm so tired of dumping $500+ per week into hotel rooms (which is more than my current gross weekly income) indefinitely.
I'm so tired of not having immediate access to 90% of our belongings because they're scattered between a pigsty of a car, and a disaster of a storage unit.
But we need roughly $1100 and a co-signer to secure an apartment there regardless of floor plan because we don't have the income or credit ratings.

in reply to Melancholic Mediocrity • • •I know how frustrating it is to piss all your money away on hotel rent when monthly rent would be at most 1/3 that. It bankrupted me. I had a little nest egg, but am on SSI and don't have enough income to be allowed to pay monthly rent. Usually. Minnesota made a program specifically to help people like me, and I ended up in a converted motel paying sliding scale rent I can actually afford.
I do know your pain, though. And I had to spend a couple months in a homeless shelter on the way here. That was not fun.

Burning money on hotels is hurting you long-term. Side benefit: you work through the difficult but ultimately wildly beneficial process of rebuilding bridges with family.
What's making things hard for you may well be living away from community.
