Creste nella Licus Vallis

#marte @astronomia

Hidden in a damp tomb for over 2,000 years, the Sword of Goujian was discovered in 1965 near Jiangling, China. Despite its age, the blade showed no signs of rust and was still razor-sharp. Believed to have belonged to King Goujian of Yue, the sword’s flawless craftsmanship and intricate inscriptions continue to baffle experts, preserving its legacy as one of history’s most mysterious weapons.

US AI giant Anthropic bars Chinese-owned entities

Anthropic is barring Chinese-run companies and organisations from using its artificial intelligence services, the US tech giant said, as it toughened restrictions on “authoritarian regions”.

The startup, heavily backed by Amazon, is known for its Claude chatbot and positions itself as focused on AI safety and responsible development.

Companies based in China, as well as in countries including Russia, North Korea and Iran, are already unable to access Anthropic’s commercial services over legal and security concerns.

ChatGPT and other products from US competitor OpenAI are also unavailable within China — spurring the growth of homegrown AI models from Chinese companies such as Alibaba and Baidu.

Anthropic said in a statement dated Friday that it was going a step further in an update to its terms of service.

Despite current restrictions, some groups “continue accessing our services in various ways, such as through subsidiaries incorporated in other countries,” the US firm said.

So “this update prohibits companies or organisations whose ownership structures subject them to control from jurisdictions where our products are not permitted, like China, regardless of where they operate.”

Anthropic — valued at $183 billion — said that the change would affect entities more than 50 per cent owned, directly or indirectly, by companies in unsupported regions.

“This is the first time a major US AI company has imposed a formal, public prohibition of this kind,” said Nicholas Cook, a lawyer focused on the AI industry with 15 years of experience at international law firms in China.

“The immediate commercial effect may be modest, since US AI providers already face barriers to operating in this market and relevant groups have been self-selecting for their own locally developed AI tech,” he told AFP.

But “taking a stance like this will inevitably lead to questions as to whether others will or should take a similar approach”. An Anthropic executive told the Financial Times that the move would have an impact on revenues in the “low hundreds of millions of dollars”.

The San Francisco-headquartered company was founded in 2021 by former executives from OpenAI.

It announced this week it had raised $13bn in its latest funding round, saying it now has more than 300,000 business customers. And the number of accounts on pace to generate more than $100,000 annually is nearly seven times larger than a year ago, Anthropic said on Tuesday.

Some users in China do access US generative AI chatbots such as ChatGPT or Claude by using VPN services.

Assumptions that the US was far ahead of China in the fast-moving AI sector were upended this year when Chinese start-up DeepSeek unveiled a chatbot that matched top American systems for an apparent fraction of the cost.

I appreciate the response and mean no disrespect to you when I say the benefits mainly accrue upwards, not downwards to ordinary folks with meagre funds. Musk's "self-driving" cars already function as unregulated surveillance for a reckless billionaire who has way too much power, and is a clear and present danger to democracy. A robot in my home with advanced sensory capacity? In my living room? Bedroom?

I'd dismantle it into individual component parts myself. Not wanted or needed.

@ApostateEnglishman true, however robotics also have their uses in places where we all come like hospitals, factories, warehouses etc

I have two apps on my Android phone that use openstreetmaps for map data

Osmand (openstreetmap for android)
Organic maps

Both work fine. They work offline (their maps are updated aporoximately monthly and I download them at home on home wifi) and can give turn by turn directions if you create a route and turn on location.

They do not have current traffic info.

(the New Arab / WAFA / JNS)

(YouTube / POLITICO)

On Tuesday, Dolce Vento was launched from the Ereğli district of Zonguldak, Turkey, according to superyachttimes.com/yacht-news…
. Within about 15 minutes, the vessel developed a “stabilization issue,” began taking on water, and ultimately capsized, the yachting news website wrote in a report.

Why did Russia lose Kyiv in 2022?

On 3 September 2025 Putin claimed Russia withdrew its forces from Kyiv in 2022 "because Europeans insisted". In reality, Russia suffered catastrophic losses and entirely failed its plan to capture Kyiv, Kharkiv and other key cities during its 2022 campaign, which was the sole reason of its withdrawal.

As I mentioned recently, I'm hoping and praying that I can land this promotion to Team Lead.

I want this job.

I NEED this job.

I also know that to land this job, I've got to be looking and feeling my best. I need to throw myself into my work as hard as I can during the next couple of weeks.

It's going to be difficult for me to do so when I'm stressed to the max about housing, food, and the spare tire that I still have not had a fucking chance to get replaced yet.

I am literally months overdue for a haircut and beard trim.

I've been wearing the same pair of pants for two weeks now because of the housing chaos and most of my clothes accidentally ending up in a storage unit that is the other point in a triangle between our current hotel location and my work location that straddles the entire valley and I haven't been able to return to in several days.

Of those clothes, a fair portion are starting to wear out. I also need to invest in undershirts so I'm not prematurely wearing out my work shirts.

Therefore, my immediate priorities are as follows:

1. Finally get that damned tire replaced.

2. Haircut and trim so I don't look like Albert Einstein with less charisma

3. Buy some undershirts and maybe a couple of outer shirts to replace ones that I've ruined with sweat stains

4. Groceries

in reply to Melancholic Mediocrity

TL;DR: OP needs a promotion and is stressed about basic needs (car repair, haircut, clothes, groceries) hindering their chances.
in reply to Melancholic Mediocrity

Regarding housing, as many of you know my partner and I recently fell in love with an apartment complex that we really, REALLY want to move to.

I'm so tired of dumping $500+ per week into hotel rooms (which is more than my current gross weekly income) indefinitely.

I'm so tired of not having immediate access to 90% of our belongings because they're scattered between a pigsty of a car, and a disaster of a storage unit.

But we need roughly $1100 and a co-signer to secure an apartment there regardless of floor plan because we don't have the income or credit ratings.

in reply to Melancholic Mediocrity

I know how frustrating it is to piss all your money away on hotel rent when monthly rent would be at most 1/3 that. It bankrupted me. I had a little nest egg, but am on SSI and don't have enough income to be allowed to pay monthly rent. Usually. Minnesota made a program specifically to help people like me, and I ended up in a converted motel paying sliding scale rent I can actually afford.

I do know your pain, though. And I had to spend a couple months in a homeless shelter on the way here. That was not fun.

Good luck. I hope you get the job.

in reply to Melancholic Mediocrity

It really feels like your best bet is to figure out a truce with family or friends and stay with someone long enough to save up for an apartment or mortgage. Burning money on hotels is hurting you long-term. Side benefit: you work through the difficult but ultimately wildly beneficial process of rebuilding bridges with family.

What's making things hard for you may well be living away from community.

In meinem Ohr kreischt jemand.

Suí)

## Grundlegende Symbolik
