Illustrating every legendary creature in Wisconsin folklore: Two-For-One with the Giddy Fish and Whirligig Fish. Both of which looked basically the same and were considered close relatives in the lore.
They were both associated with ice fishing. The giddy fish had a rubber-like body, and naturally liked to leap out of the water. Therefore you could fish them in great numbers by simply drilling a hole in the ice and striking the ones that jumped out with a blunt object.
The whirligig fish, on the other hand, liked pungent cheese, ham, and bacon. If you wanted to catch one of these, you simply drilled a hole in the ice and then smeared limburger cheese or bacon grease around the edge. The fish would circle around the ice hole eating the bait, going faster and faster, until eventually centrifugal force would force it out of the water and out of the hole, corkscrewing through the air.

Summer wanted to know if I feel older. Birthdays don't bother me, especially now that I'm old. I just want to use the time I have left in ways that lift the people I care about up and make them feel loved.
Summer will be three years old next month. She says she loves everyone, too.
