I'm thinking about upgrading the drives in a RAID from spinners to SSDs, but just looking at prices, it seems that getting m.2 drives and putting them in 2.5" adapters looks considerably cheaper. I've never done this.

Trump spiazza tutti! Grande rimonta: quattro punti recuperati in tre settimane (14 dicembre)
Come ogni domenica, facciamo un resoconto sulla approvazione del presidente Trump, con i cambiamenti occorsi negli ultimi sette giorni.
Dopo un mese di novembre contraddistinto da un importante e costante crollo di consensi, per la terza settimana in fila si registra un recupero del tycoon, questa volta con delle dimensioni più sostanziose (+1,5/+2,6 punti).
Superato il periodo nero dello shutdown, in cui sono stati persi 7-8 punti secchi di popolarità in tutte le medie considerate, negli ultimi 21 giorni si evidenzia una crescita non trascurabile, che non compensa le ingenti perdite subite ma riporta i numeri in un territorio meno negativo.
Questa domenica il miglioramento è imputabile soprattutto al sondaggio di Harvard Caps-Harris Poll, istituto tendenzialmente più filo-Trump, ma uno dei migliori delle ultime tornate presidenziali.
Grazie a questa risalita, i segnali per Trump tornano ad essere leggermente più positivi: il tasso di approvazione torna sopra al 43% dopo essersi pericolosamente avvicinato al 40%, e i numeri tornano complessivamente ai livelli dell’inizio dello shutdown.
È presto per dire se questo possa segnare un nuovo inizio e dare nuova linfa al tycoon, che rimane comunque nel mezzo di una crisi di consensi e con dati ancora relativamente bassi. Potrebbe trattarsi di un naturale e momentaneo “rimbalzo” dopo il costante calo nel periodo di shutdown.
Il net rating (la differenza tra tasso di approvazione e tasso di disapprovazione) rimane saldamente in territorio negativo sia per la media di RealClearPolitics, sia per quella del Silver Bulletin, sia per la nostra di Focus America.
Tutti e tre i siti rilevano una variazione positiva per la terza settimana consecutiva, con il dato di RCP che è nel complesso leggermente migliore rispetto a Silver e Focus America.
Negli ultimi tre aggiornamenti Trump ha recuperato nel complesso 3,9 punti nella media di Focus America e 3,5 punti nelle medie di Silver e di RCP, numeri notevoli che consentono di far tirare un sospiro di sollievo dopo aver toccato il fondo.
Il gradimento di Trump rimane al momento più distanziato rispetto a quello di Joe Biden nel confronto diretto del periodo corrispondente del mandato, dopo averlo brevemente raggiunto e superato alcune settimane fa.
In questo momento la popolarità rimane superiore solo a quella del suo primo mandato - che resta il punto più basso di sempre per qualsiasi presidente -, con le due curve che tornano però a distanziarsi notevolmente.
Facendo un paragone con il passato, grazie ai dati di Focus America, si nota come il dato di apprezzamento di Trump dopo 327 giorni di presidenza (-10,4 secondo la nostra media) sia uno dei più bassi tra tutti i presidenti USA dal secondo dopoguerra in avanti nello stesso periodo, ad esclusione appunto del suo primo mandato, in cui era nel pieno del picco negativo, a -19,6.
Come già accennato, anche Joe Biden (-7,2) non brillava particolarmente dopo quasi undici mesi di presidenza.
Sul nostro sito trovate i grafici con il confronto con tutti i primi mandati degli altri presidenti, con una frequenza di aggiornamento pari a 8 volte al giorno.
Il tasso di approvazione di Trump oscilla tra il 43% e il 44%, mentre il tasso di disapprovazione si aggira intorno al 53%-54%, numeri simili a quelli che aveva Biden nell’ultima parte del suo mandato.
Nelle prossime settimane monitoreremo l’evoluzione di questa situazione, per capire se questo guadagno resterà un outlier o se gli sviluppi sul piano di pace in Ucraina daranno ulteriore respiro ai numeri dell’amministrazione, come era accaduto successivamente al piano per il cessate il fuoco in medioriente.
Di seguito pubblichiamo una selezione delle rilevazioni dei migliori istituti rilasciate nel corso dell’ultima settimana. Di fianco alla casa sondaggistica scriviamo due numeri percentuali: il primo è il tasso di approvazione, il secondo quello di disapprovazione.
Ricordiamo che, stante la chiusura del sito FiveThirtyEight, abbiamo deciso di utilizzare i numeri del Silver Bulletin, il nuovo sito di Nate Silver, fondatore di 538.

The motorcar lobby has really done a number on Americans when it comes to the idea of "jaywalking".
I'm watching A Gift For Christmas (2017). The female protagonist is #cycling furiously and not watching the road ahead and runs over the male protagonist who is using what appears to be a pedestrian crossing in #Philadelphia.
The "#jaywalking is bad" culture is so ingrained that it is presented as perfectly normal that not only do the police allow the careless speeding rider to get off scott free, they even let the rider claim the victim pedestrian's personal effects (including keys) and hand the perpetrator the victim's pet without blinking.

No idea whether it is still a thing but the HMGov modified the Highway Code booklet[1], which is kind of of how you are judged should an incident occur.
The one that blew me away years ago was that they change the wording about mini-roundabouts from "you SHOULD go around the mini-roundabout" to "you MUST go around the mini-roundabout".

If you do not have jobs for juniors,
you won't have seniors for the jobs you need them for.
The use of llm-driven tools to eliminate junior-level jobs means you will not have senior-level candidates for the roles you need them for.
No llm is capable of the systemic understanding of projects that a senior developer needs to have.
If you are using llm tools instead of juniors and interns, you are shooting yourself in the foot.

There's been zero new kinds of jobs created by llm tech.
It's been used to eliminate classes of jobs by loading the work that juniors used to do onto seniors as additional responsibilities.
The expectations of the people creating these tools is that people who already have skills will use these tools to do more work.
The expectation of management demanding the use of these tools is that they will not have to pay for juniors, and can do the same productive output with fewer staff.
There are no workflows available to train juniors to become seniors.
The only way to get new seniors is by giving juniors work experience so they can learn how to work with actual codebases over time.
The open-source world is not capable of providing this training.
It requires focused managerial investment in the workforce, which means money.
This is not limited to devs, either; infosec has the same issue - and has had, for years.
This shit is why I keep pushing for unionization; management is fundamentally incapable of understanding this systemic issue.
Something in the MBA mindset removes the ability to comprehend systemic workforce logistics; they end up assuming "someone else" will do the training.
That's gone now.
Your company will need to learn to invest in juniors to teach them how to be seniors, or you will not have any more seniors, period.
The usual argument I've had from dipshit managers in the past refusing to provide training or access to juniors is that "if we train them then someone else will hire them away and then that money is wasted."
Which tells me you're refusing to provide a safe and trustworthy environment for your employees in general.
Funding used to be at a higher level for entry level positions too, but I think they redid the funding levels since I last looked into it, so it might not be as helpful as it used to be, but these sort of things can help too.
again? Sure, let's blame a thing that greedy corporations made a scapegoat to shift anger to.
As @pluralistic says, they think headlines like "we're doing so well, we replaced them with AI" are better than "we're doing so bad, we are laying off senior staff".
And let's be real: AI in such cases really means overtime work, underpaid juniors(and overworked seniors) and outsourcing to India.

On Friday I found someone local to me selling a Bowens Illumitran 3 slide copier (I plan on modifying it a bit to try using it with a DSLR for "camera scanning" negatives). While I was there, I asked if he had any other photography/darkroom related equipment for sale. He said:
"Well, my neighbor was a photographer who sold his work at shows/conventions all over the country and, when he passed, his wife gave me a lot of his supplies. I've sold most of it, but I still have tons of frames, museum/conservation frame glass, and a few other things if you'd like to take a look."
He gave me a price I couldn't say no to and said I could take "as much as I could fit in my car". I walked away with:
- ~50 unused, hand-made, hand-stained wood frames of various sizes
- An incredible amount of glass (I can't even guess how much)
- A very nice mat board cutter,
- ~20 boxes of new frame hardware
- A new, unused roll of backing paper.
It looked like I burglarized a frame shop.
