Allerdings geht für mich jetzt die nicht-so-staade Zeit los. Auch wenn ich in DE nicht wirklich medizinisch tätig sein will oder bin, helfe ich während der Weihnachts- und Silvesterzeit dann doch gerne aus. Oder, um es mit Karl Valentin zu sagen: "Wenn die Staade Zeit zu Ende geht, dann kann ich auch wieder ruhiger werden."
Damit bekommt Hule jetzt eine Entwicklungspause bis in das neue Jahr, und dann schauen wir mal weiter, ob Podcasts und Video-Posts wieder reinkommen.

Mullvad dice addio a OpenVPN e punta tutto su WireGuard
Mullvad VPN ha rimosso OpenVPN dalla sua app desktop con la versione 2025.14. Una decisione annunciata già l’anno scorso e che ora diventa realtà: lo storico protocollo viene ora definitivamente sostituito da WireGuard.
La migrazione è automatica
Chi usava OpenVPN si ritroverà automaticamente spostato su WireGuard senza fare nulla. L’unico caso in cui potrebbe servire qualche ritocco è se si aveva selezionato un server specifico solo OpenVPN: lì bisognerà scegliere una nuova posizione, visto che quei server non esistono più.
Per chi usava OpenVPN per aggirare censura o firewall particolarmente ostici, Mullvad ha integrato nell’app funzioni di offuscamento come “UDP-over-TCP” sulla porta 443 (simile a OpenVPN su TCP) e Shadowsocks (che replica la modalità Bridge). In pratica, WireGuard viene “camuffato” per comportarsi come OpenVPN dove serve.
WireGuard è il presente (e il futuro)
La scelta ha senso: WireGuard garantisce prestazioni migliori e maggiore sicurezza rispetto a OpenVPN, oltre a un codice molto più snello da verificare. Non è solo Mullvad a crederci: anche diversi servizi VPN come Proton VPN e Adguard VPN hanno già puntato forte su WireGuard, rendendolo il protocollo predefinito per gli utenti.
I server OpenVPN di Mullvad resteranno attivi ancora per qualche settimana, fino al 15 gennaio 2026. Dopo quella data, chi usa configurazioni esterne su router o altre app dovrà per forza passare a WireGuard.

Ive been digging around for text analysis OS apps and found AntConc via a Reddit thread. This app is very good from what I can see in early quick testing. Im looking at term frequency across relevant papers, and some 'concordance' context but AntConc will do a lot more. Together with Taguette you have all you need for a lot of analysis.
Im running portable on Windows but Mac and Linux also work.

Was talking to a young person today about careers and they seemed pretty sharp and switched on. But they're in a shit job.
And I wish more people understood that there are a lot of shit jobs out there. And this is by design. This is how the system was built. And the system relies on people not deciding "I can do better" and forging a different path for themselves.
It is true that not everyone can "do better" just because some nong on the internet said so. But it's also true that the current system relies on most people giving up before they even try.
I like to imagine a world where things are better, for lots of folks. Believing that it's possible is the first step.
There's this thing that happens a lot when I'm staying in hotels. Happened again today.
Lady wants to know if I want my room made up. It's always a lady, can't remember the last time I saw a male hotel cleaner. I always say no. I don't need someone wasting their time to fuss around my room and make it neat, only for me to mess it up an hour later.
They're always so grateful. Half an hour of their day they don't have to waste. She gave me extra water and loo paper. Her gratitude was palpable.
That's how tough her job is. Getting a pass on cleaning one hotel room might be the highlight of her working day.
I think about this every time some poncey billionaire wants to brag about how hard they worked to convert their inheritance from a few billions to lots of billions. I think about the cleaning ladies at my hotel who have never been on a jet plane. The bus drivers in Kathmandu who can't afford to buy a car. The Sherpa in the Himalayas who don't have any retirement fund when they break a leg and have to stop working.
I didn't know how I ended up this lucky. But I do know I'm lucky.
