so you could have a setup like i do, with an encrypted, locally cached S3 bucket as your home directory that is replicated using a global CDN with minimal configuraiton
there are no consistency issues either, while still caching writes in the VFS layer
it is the foundation of my research project for spawning stateless virtual machines that need no disk space allocated because they just get their resources with appropriate permission checks from the S3 bucket that is cached on the hypervisor, and if i were to scale this across single machine hypervisors i could also give it like 20GB of NVME disk space which it can use as cache for the service's state, since it doesnt need any space for its system configuration and data that is mounted as a read only overlay from the hypervisor, where both share a nix store
