No-one will be surprised that Nadine Dorries has left the Tories to join ReformUK... my guess is we'll be seeing a lot more of this as Farage demonstrates he has the ears of the press in the way that Kemi Badenoch does not....
In this sense the 'split' on the Right may heal itself (at the cost of the remaining 'coherence' of the Tory party).
As the Right consolidates in & around Reform, the Left needs to get its act together & perhaps Polanski's Greens can be the catalyst for that?

"Sound of a Million Insects, Light of a Thousand Stars"
directed by Tomonari Nishikawa.
"I buried a 100-foot (about 30 meters) 35mm negative film under fallen leaves alongside a country road, which was about 25 km away from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, for about 6 hours, from the sunset of June 24, 2014, to the sunrise of the following day. The night was beautiful with a starry sky, and numerous summer insects were singing loud. The area was once an evacuation zone, but now people live there after the removal of the contaminated soil. This film was exposed to the possible remaining of the radioactive materials."

This is one of the reasons I roll my own game engines. It’s more work, yes, but I’m not spending my time keeping up with ever changing APIs, or worrying about version upgrades a company is foisting on me.
It’s also why I love doing coding on vintage systems for fun. Or arduino projects, etc.

Harlequin (1992), a 2D platformer for the Commodore Amiga.
You play a harlequin—naturally—wandering through the surreal land of Chimerica, firing hearts instead of bullets. Only love can neutralize these bizarre enemies, which already makes it stand out from the glut of mascot platformers of the early ’90s.
Thing is, Harlequin isn’t just a straight run-and-jump game. You flip switches that change entire levels, then backtrack to see how the world has transformed. One moment you’re bouncing through “Cutesy Land” (a cheeky Mario spoof), the next you’re scaling clocktowers, hopping across organ pipes that play real notes under your feet, or drifting into “Hellzapoppin.” The design is eccentric, and deliberately so.
And yes—the Amiga shows off here. Smooth eight-way scrolling, vibrant pixel art, and the kind of big, weird level themes that the ST port could barely keep up with. Barry Leitch’s soundtrack is the real hook, though—lush, melodic, and far more memorable than the sparse sound effects. On a stock 512K Amiga you even had to choose between loading music or SFX because it couldn’t handle both at once.
Despite glowing reviews at the time (ACE gave it 900/1000, Amiga Power 91%), it never made it to console. A Mega Drive version was in the works, rebranded as Madness: House of Fun, but it got canned. Today the only “modern” way to play it is on Antstream or via a WHDLoad install on real hardware. And that’s a shame, because this is easily one of the best platformers of the 16-bit era—quirky, clever, and criminally overlooked.

in reply to Emeritus Prof Christopher May • • •The #UK political scene looks all too much like #Australian politics a year ago or so, especially the splitting factionalism of the #LNP (Liberal-National Party) coalition, now set to remain in opposition for several terms IMO, and a #Labor party that has shifted to occupy centre-right political ground. Resulting in a disenfranchised Labor-left and member exodus to the Greens (in terms of voting preferences), while the Greens themselves still have a tough time breaking through the ‘cross-bench’ ceiling in the Senate to become a major force among the two-party duopoly. The good news is that the Australian electorate firmly rejected #Trumpism at the last election, thank goodness.
One of the downsides of Labor’s new term in office is that it has now latched on to a successful strategy for holding on to govt while only succeding in wasting their Lower House (super?) majority with a timid legislative agenda.
While progressives left and right of the political divide are clamering for change, Labor isn’t keen to rock that boat. The left is muzzled for now… The right, pushed out by Labor’s encroachment on their turf, with far less ground to cover aside from #racism #stupidity and #fascism, is all too ready to jump further right in order to appear relevant to a dwindling minority of the electorate.
They say that change is good, but nothing has really changed besides the goalposts. It may be that the UK will surprise and take a different route… time will tell.

Australia had some advantages over the UK.Our voting system means there is no "penalty" in voting strictly in order of preferred candidates, so independents and greens can get votes from anyone who prefers their policies and understands the voting system (sadly not everyone).
Even so, the collapse of the Liberals allowed Labor to secure a majority and continue to ignore the Greens and progressive independent candidates. This means we now have a centre-right government that the media and many pundits continue to brand as dangerous left-wingers. Labor is complacent and doing nothing at all to address the critical issues of the day - environment, inequality, racism, war-mongering, gambling addiction, etc.

Yes, our voting system works against incremental shifts of political views, reserving the advantage to major parties, until they really collapse badly
