@evan As a person with a heavily ritualized life I don't actually have a lot of birthday rituals. I have a shirt I wear (which I made in the 90s), and I usually spend a bit of time in social media gratitude/sharing and then do whatever feels like the right thing. This year it was getting together with my sister and partner and another good friend and getting Indian food delivered (I don't have food delivery in Vermont so this felt SO DECADENT) and my sister made a cake. Nice mellow day.
@evan I politely ask people for no gifts but my partner actually made me a card, in his usual style, which was just full of trivia facts about the number 57, a little bit about Heinz but mostly about these two mathematicians who... mistakenly thought 57 was a prime number for a little bit?
My sister (who cannot be dissuaded from gifts entirely) got me a Japanese miniature bookmobile the size of a Hot Wheels car. No pickles! May you be as lucky.
