I made some custom software for editing raw files; one part "film simulator" based on some physical assumptions of film, one part "edit files quick and dirty."
Recently I've started changing it a little bit to improve it in a few ways, and one thing I tried increased the dimensionality of one part of one formula. This introduced some really interesting numerical instability. I have no idea why it's doing this!

Any interface is "intuitive" to someone who is already familiar with the design patterns and the interaction techniques that it uses. Similarly, any interface is "unintuitive" when it introduces the user to new interaction techniques.

The NUI trend from a decade ago failed precisely because designers imagined that intuitiveness was (or ought to be) an inherent property of the design, rather than the human-computer system.
Every interface is learned. If the user isn't learning it in your app, it's because they learned it somewhere else. By acting as though an interface is inherently either intuitive or not, we make it impossible for users to learn in our app, and assume that they will simply go learn it somewhere else.
The responsible choice is to design learnable apps, rather than intuitive ones. But please don't misunderstand — I am NOT talking about onboarding tours and those horrible tooltips that swarm you whenever you log in for the first time.
Please stop using those forever.
