I was able to connect to the IbmI and do most of my work with a Linux desktop, except for IBMs stupid requirement of using MS Word to create document overlays. Printers early on were problematic but solvable.
The switch to Linux made my programming life so much easier. Especially when some Cisco admin would lock one out via VPN to their network only and Linux just said FU to that.

3) Userland API and ABI. It's constantly been broken. Why we sh'ld recompile old programs? Why we sh'ld rewrite them? Because of Gtk/Qt.
