US | In 'Serious Blow to Our Democracy,' Supreme Court Allows Trump Mass Firing Order

The U.S. Supreme Court lifted a block on U.S. President Donald Trump's February executive order directing federal agency leaders to craft plans to gut the government—a decision blasted by one liberal justice and a coalition of labor unions, local governments, and nonprofits.

The image depicts a futuristic scene with two astronauts in orange and white space suits walking on a grassy path. They are heading towards a large, imposing structure with a distinctive "H" shape, painted in shades of orange and gray. The structure appears to be part of a larger complex, with additional buildings and a flying vehicle visible in the background. The sky is a clear blue, and the landscape is dotted with greenery and wildflowers. The astronauts' suits are equipped with backpacks, and they are wearing white helmets. The scene is set in a vast, open area with a hazy atmosphere, suggesting a distant or otherworldly location.

Hey Mastodon, could you help me spread the word about my Etsy shop? A sale or two would be a colossal help.

All of my creations are designed, hand-sewn, hand-embroidered by me. Each takes many hours to make.

This is a really great read by the @bonfire team. As someone who has done all kinds of experiments with long-form articles and publishing directly on the #Fediverse, there are a number of headaches and hurdles we still need to figure out.

My overall philosophy is this: rather than adapting existing content management systems to use ActivityPub federation, it’s preferable to build a CMS for the Fediverse, with explicit considerations for how the instance and the network should interact with each other. Everything, from the dashboard to side-effects of interaction, should be designed with federation considerations in mind.

Make no mistake, I really love what Ghost is doing with publishing. I’m a happy customer, and intend to stay there for the time being. But Ghost’s current ActivityPub offering is ultimately very limited, even when compared to Mastodon.

I think Bonfire could provide the building blocks to make something similar to Ghost, but with a far more robust amount of features under the hood.

absolutely agree! Very excited to try it out myself. My community was curious about it, and it's very difficult to fully explain. I'm hoping if I can get it set up, with help, that I can do some videos showcasing it and learning myself. I think it has massive potential for small communities as well. I don't think Bonfire is the last evolution. That's our unique stepping stone. Things like that and #Surf .

in reply to ozoned

@ozoned The way I understand Bonfire, it’s almost like a framework for building different Fediverse apps using modular pieces. It can almost be understood as being like Ruby on Rails, but for Fediverse applications that can all be wildly different.

Not a perfect analogy, but their “Apps” are almost like distributions built on top of the core framework. There’s a lot of cool things that could be built with this.

in reply to Sean Tilley

Yeah, I was hoping Ghost would develop a full micro-blogging tool in addition to its regular blog/newsletter, but now I'm not sure it's going to happen. Which is sad.

And yes, I've been testing Bonfire on their demo instance and it's quite impressive. I hope to be able to have an actual account soon.

in reply to David B. Himself

@DavidBHimself I think what Ghost has accomplished so far is extremely good. My thinking is that it probably takes a decent amount of time to incorporate entirely new features, and that they may still be figuring out what pieces fit with their system.

Any thoughts on the Streams repository offering?

in reply to (((Baslow)))

@baslow I have mixed opinions. As with most projects from this family tree: amazing underlying technologies, kind of rough UI and UX design concepts, questionable long-term viability. Friendica and Hubzilla have relatively stable communities with users, admins, and devs, but there’s a number of projects like Osada and Zap that just kind of got sunset out of the blue.

a ) is fucking hilarious
b ) involves one of the startups accidentally screen-sharing that their patentable technology appears to just be forked from an academic's work with no credit
3) further includes a radiology company admitting they haven't consulted any radiologists lmao
