🧵In 2018 the Senate Intelligence Committee asked me to help analyze a data set that FB, Twitter, and Google had turned over: several hundred gigs of posts chronicling a multi-year effort by Russian trolls to divide American society *and* interfere in the 2016 American presidential election.
The data was very clear: the Russians had a candidate they clearly wanted to boost. Who do you think that was?

As it happens, a year BEFORE I did that work, the CIA and others in the IC released an assessment saying they believed Russia had aspired to help Trump win (among other things).
The sitting CIA director is now retconning that conclusion. A tradecraft review of the assessment found it should have been a *moderate* confidence assessment -not high- but didn’t dispute the conclusion.
Ratcliffe is spinning it as ‘destroying the “Russiagate hoax”’ anyway. (Not sure what the term means now)
The problem is that the Senate’s report came out years after the CIA’s assessment - based on even MORE evidence! So the CIA director is simply acting as if it never happened. 
Once again this Administration is trying to rewrite history before our eyes. Substack cranks and right wing propagandists are helping them along. They’re going so far as to pretend Russia wanted HILLARY to win.
Pay attention to what they’re doing here.
I am a long way away, whew.
But I can see from here how Trump won because he is better at politics, a lot better, than his opposition.

Hardly anyone cares! He still won, by telling people what they want to hear. His opposition are hopeless elite fools thrown up by dreadful incentives in USA politics (in both the Repulican and Democrat branches of the political elites)
Unless the USA gets another Roosevelt I do not expect their "democracy " to survive

Ugh, I should never read new series-starting books right after they come out. Now I have to wait however long it takes for the author to write another very good novel so I can read the sequel.
The book is Jayán F.R.’s The Wind of Venus: The Aeoliad Part I (jayanfr.com/books). I had no expectations going in, saw a post by the author on r/solarpunk, debut novel.
It’s very well written, the story’s interesting, the setting is imaginatively compelling (anarchist community of airships sailing Venus’s temperate cloud layer, so #solarpunk + speculative #scifi ).
First half is engaging slice-of-life type story telling, with a coming-of-age angle. Action picks up in the second half. I definitely recommend it, just hope the author’s a fast writer ‘cause I’d very much like to find out what happens next.
