This post is probably only for the intersection of the #Venn diagram with circles labelled "#guitar player" and "#electronics hobbyist". I'm not on fora like #diystompboxes and such, so here it will have to be.
Like many others, I've built delay / echo #pedals / circuits using the ubiquitous #PT2399 digital delay IC. They're dirt cheap and simple to use. But the lowest delay period you can use them for is too long for some things, like #flanger / #phaser effects, or even some types of #chorus effects.
But I haven't seen much discussion of alternatives. I've been playing around with one I've built using the #M65831 digital #delay chip. It's not quite as cheap as the PT2399, but you don't have to look very hard to be able to get them for a couple of bucks (Canadian). But it seems to be so much better in this application.
First, it's designed and documented so that you can use a crystal to set its clock OR drive it directly with a CMOS-type square wave. No fiddling with drain currents and on-reset latchup problems.
Secondly, it sounds (to my ear) far better than the PT2399. The #datasheets I have for the PT2399 don't state a sampling rate; the M65831 uses 500 ksamples/s for lower delay times.
Thirdly, the range of delay available is larger. The shortest documented for PT2399 is ~31ms. For the M65831, it's 12.3ms using the default clock of 2 MHz. But the one sample I've tried is happy to run at 6 #MHz, for a delay of ~4ms. That's short enough for #flanging!

Computers suffered a similar fate, with nearly everything designed to be flat and minimalist with very little character. To be sure there are plenty of retro computing projects to recapture nostalgia, but to get useful, modern hardware in a fun, retro-themed case check out this desktop build from [Mar] that hides a few unique extras.
The PC itself is a modern build with an up-to-date operating system, but hidden in a 386-era case with early-90s styling. The real gem of this build though is the floppy disk drive, which looks unaltered on the surface. But its core functionality has been removed and in its place an Arduino sits, looking for NFC devices. The floppy disks similarly had NFC tags installed so that when they interact with the Arduino,it can send a command to the computer to launch a corresponding game. To the user it looks as though the game loads from a floppy disk, much like it would have in the 90s albeit with much more speed and much less noise.

I was thinking today that I have been responsible for more than just myself my whole life. As a kid my mother expected me to watch out for my younger sister who was born with Down syndrome. I was a teen mom. After my kids were grown there was a husband and grandkids to help raise. Now I am caregiver to my husband and dog mom to Summer. I don't know any other way. Today when Summer sat down and wouldn't stand up I felt really helpless. She is too heavy for me to carry comfortably for her. She can't talk to tell me what's wrong. She just looks at me like I will know what to do. I did my best and although it took awhile and a trip to the vet she feels better. This evening while we watched a spectacular sunset get better and better I held her close and said I was sorry she had a rotten difficult day. She snuggled up like not feeling good is just old news. #Sunset

I had been wondering for some time if I was going about things the wrong way by doing #OpenStreetMap workshops (where I teach people to use iD) at #FOSS meetups and conferences.
While I’d also try to cover why #OSM is important and how to use it, most of the time was taken up in learning to edit…which seemed backward. Why would someone continue editing afterwards if they weren’t convinced of the importance of the project?
There was also another thought stewing in my head…most of the people who have attended our mapping parties, and all the people who are regular participants, are all big on #SoftwareFreedom and #privacy. Maybe we should try focusing more on software freedom, and promote OSM in that context?
With these ideas in mind and after discussions with @ravi, I decided to prepare a new talk - one focused on getting people to use some #Libre map apps (CoMaps, OsmAnd, and OsmApp). If we can convince people to do that, they’ll probably also start contributing data, and participating in mapping parties…
This time, I added a lot more screenshots in the hope of providing a more engaging experience. I’ve also been burned by conference WiFi all too often, so this time I made many screen capture videos instead of demonstrating websites or applications live.
I gave the talk at today’s FOSS Meetup Delhi. It was far from perfect, but at least I got a clear path towards improving it - I need to cut down the run time and some irrelevant content, so I can present it in 15 to 30 minutes depending on the situation. And of course, there are still more screenshots and video demos to be added.
This time I also made sure to arrive early so I could understand how to extend the display using the projector, and use RevealJS’s speaker view. That way, I was able to use the slides to guide me without giving away what I was about to say, and I could speak first and let the slide summarize it afterwards.
Relying on the laptop to act as a teleprompter has its drawbacks, though…you want to be focused on the audience, not the screen. And you want to be free to move around…

While people across the political spectrum are capable of empathy, the results suggest that those on the political right—especially those aligned with Trump—may experience and express empathy differently.
Supporters of Trump were less likely to feel concern for others’ suffering (lower affective empathy) and more likely to enjoy or be indifferent to others’ distress (higher dissonant empathy). Importantly, these differences were not found in cognitive empathy. Trump supporters were just as able as others to recognize emotions in others—they simply appeared to care less, on average.
