The goal of normalizing gender transition (at least to me) isn't to make it so that people are just okay with us or so that is allowed. It's to get to the point where it just doesn't matter. It should be nothing but a weird little factoid that some people know about me. A coming out conversation should go something like this:
Guy: "So I heard a rumor that you used to be a dude?"
Me: "I mean... Used to be... That's a whole metaphorical conversation. I could write a book. But, yeah, more or less."
Guy: "Wild!"
Me: "Yeah. Quite the ride."
Guy: "So, you like being a chick?"
Me: "Yup! Best decision of my life. 🥰"
Guy: "Cool. I'm really happy for you. Can I buy you a drink?"
That's it. That should be the conversation. I mean, obviously that little bit of roleplay assumes someone outed me, which isn't ideal but these things happen. But the point is that there shouldn't be any freaking out or "OMG! Am I gay for thinking you're hot?!?" confusion or danger or violence. It should just be a thing people do sometimes. Personally, it should just be a weird thing about me like how I love the color purple or how I collected penguin plushies when I was a kid.
A lot of what we see happening in our world right now is that the bigots are deeply uncomfortable with our existence and they're doing everything in their power to try and get the rest of the population to be just as uncomfortable with us as they are. But it shouldn't be a thing that makes people uncomfortable. It should just be a thing people do sometimes. Some people switch genders. Some people have a non-standard gender. It's okay. It shouldn't be a big deal.
The "big deal" is all manufactured and it's exhausting. 😩

More fox tales... While we were gone, the fox or foxes ripped up the cushions on our chairs down by the barn. 🤬 So we replaced the cushions with the oldest ones we have to see what would happen. We went down this morning for coffee, and damned if one of the little foxes wasn't curled up in my chair, just hanging out as big as you please! And while we were having coffee, it came back! In 23 years, we've never seen them so bold.
