I need you to understand something. The entire reason Trump won is because he managed to energize a disaffected base of eligible voters that previously didn't give a shit about politics because they're too fucking stupid to educate themselves. Now, these people didn't just magically one day start actively liking education. They're still the same exact disaffected, politically neutral dipshits they've always been. They just fucking love Trump. That's it.
And we have seen this born out in all kinds of ways already. From the 2022 midterms, which was supposed to be this gigantic red wave that turned out to be mostly a wash with maybe a small win in the Senate for Democrats - to the 2024 governors races that mostly went toward Democrats even in states that swung massively for Trump - to the special race in Iowa that just happened where a Democrat flipped a seat in a county that voted +11 points for Trump. Red voters don't give a shit about anyone else. MAGA will literally walk into a voting booth, vote for Trump, and then just fuck off and not vote for any other downline candidate. If Trump isn't on the ticket, they don't give a damn.
The lesson for us liberals isn't "We must defeat every red incumbent" although yes obviously I'm for that. No, the lesson is "Cut off the head, and the snake dies".
I am designing a smart alarm clock to replace the one in my phone, because I can turn off that alarm in my sleep, which isn't conductive to actually getting up on time.
Here's some of the features it will have:
- Home assistant integration! Trigger scenes, automations and more when alarms go off, or only make alarms go off if somebody is home
- Getting current time from ntp, changing automatically for DST etc.
- Automatic skipping of alarms on bank holidays (enter country and state during setup)
- Different schedules for different days of the week
- Play mp3 files as alarm sounds
- eInk screen to show the time
- Push notification to your phone 5 minutes after the alarm has been turned off, if notifications aren't interacted with, the alarm goes off again
- No snooze feature
- Ability to set skip days (eg don't wake me up next week since I won't be home)
- (potentially) ability to use as a bluetooth speaker
- (unlikely but would be cool) ability to use as an airplay speaker
Software will be open source, so even if I stop supporting it (which is unlikely since it'll be my alarm clock too) others can step in to keep their devices functioning.
If you're generally interested in a device like that (no "internet of shit" style comments please), what features would you like to have in it?

I think the funding problem comes down to not having an open protocol for fiat transfer. we need new norms around support too, but it's currently too big an ask for most people in this space to use crypto or have a middleman when avoiding those are a big part of why we are here. we'd be fine with our own banks acting like fiat fedi servers. if I understand correctly, #WebMonetization is pursuing exactly this and I wish we could all rally around it for the good of the #SocialWeb.

Does it Make Sense to Upgrade a Prusa Mark 4S to a Core One?
One of the interesting things about Prusa’s FDM 3D printers is the availability of official upgrade kits, which allow you to combine bits off an older machine with those of the target machine to ideally save some money and not have an old machine gathering dust after the upgrade. While for a bedslinger-to-bedslinger upgrade this can make a lot of sense, the bedslinger to CoreXY Core One upgrade path is a bit more drastic. Recently the [Aurora Tech] channel had a look at which upgrade path makes the most sense, and in which scenario.
A big part of the comparison is the time and money spent compared to the print result, as you have effectively four options. Either you stick with the Mark 4S, get the DIY Core One (~8 hours of assembly time), get the preassembled Core One (more $$), or get the upgrade kit (also ~8 hours). There’s also the fifth option of getting the enclosure for the Mark 4S, but it costs about as much as the upgrade kit, so that doesn’t make a lot of logical sense.
In terms of print quality, it’s undeniable that the CoreXY motion system provides better results, with less ringing and better quality with tall prints, but unless you’re printing more than basic PLA and PETG, or care a lot about the faster print speeds of the CoreXY machine with large prints, the fully enclosed Core One is a bit overkill and sticking with the bedslinger may be the better choice. The long and short of it is that you have look at each option and consider what works best for your needs and your wallet.
