Anaesthesia was practiced from about 1840, with Nitrous Oxide and then Ether.
Neither would be very good for a Gynae examination, nor would most women expect it even now.
However, quite soon they were making it more practical to do something about many surgical conditions.
Devices tend to be worked out fairly well, for function and form, and using available materials, quite soon after the need becomes apparent.
Nice that someone is working with newer materials and fits.
