A full day in #Dominica yesterday. We took a tour with two Americans to the north of the island, putting our hands in cold, bubbling, volcanic springs, visiting a fort, having lunch of chicken roti in #Portsmouth (good name that), then being rowed up a river, all in ferocious heat. But on the row back we got hit by a tropical downpour. Hilarious screeching from our rower and us, all drenched, so much fun.

He thought taking up a managerial role would put him in the position of more decision-making power, but he quickly realized that that’s not really how things work and so left the company

So I got a Real Job to climb the corporate ladder, as one does. Long commute, pay was shit, but the Ladder was there. So I decided to buy a house near the job.
Two weeks from closing, they let me go. I closed anyway. Went back to consulting. I figure I made 3x more than my employee peers immediately.
Amazon will regret letting those managers go. The story ends with the first job begging me to come back in - which I did - as a consultant.
