Got tired of drilling CW in MorseMachine, Morsle, and Morse code for Android, and listened in a few times today to see whether I can copy off the air yet.

During the afternoon on 20m, Winter Field Day was in full swing and every CQ I could hear was too fast for me to copy anything after "CQ". (Well, I did copy what sounded like "FDW9" at one point which I assume was related to field day activities) After dark, 80m had some folks with a more leisurely pace. However, signals fading in and out meant that I still had trouble copying call signs. I could at least recognize more characters even if I couldn't copy enough to understand...

I don't have a key yet, so I don't have to feel bad about not transmitting. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it, for a while! 😀

Microsoft Windows+Office for $55?

What happened?

Usually cheap MSFT license offers are a sign of Linux gains somewhere but I'm not seeing it this time

LibreOffice for Steam OS is taking off?

They're selling at a loss because it makes you train their "AI"?

There's some market share number they need to tweak upward to keep some stock analyst happy?

📚 Study: Medical large language models are vulnerable to data-poisoning attacks

▪️"replacement of just 0.001% of training tokens with medical #misinformation results in harmful models more likely to propagate medical #errors"

▪️"a successful attack potentially executable for under US$1,000"

Got half of the keyboard case made. The other half will be trickier, having all the latches and handles, but this is the one that will actually be seen most the time, so I wanted to get it right. Getting very close to a full assembly, just need the final revision of the control board to arrive, and I can mount it all permanently.

This whole week has been like the opening credits of a bad remake of a bad movie, same props, same ideas, the magic sharpie

We owe a lot of the current situation to toxic hyperbole.

Petro is threatening with deporting those pesky "digital nomads" that keep parasiting our countries pretending they're rich startup CEOs.
in reply to jbz

Everywhere they go it only makes everything unaffordable for the local population.

what if unfettered growth was, like, actually not good

tonight's wikipedia rabbit hole has led me to: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/He_Jiank…

which has the absolutely *fascinating* property of containing sentences starting with things like "He became widely known" and "He was listed in", in which you can't tell if "He" is an English pronoun or a Chinese name, because either parse results in exactly the same meaning

Too much work to reproduce here, but Colombian President Petro is letting loose on Trump over on the bad place. Anyway here's a translation, and also now we're in a trade war because your president is an idiot with oatmeal for brains. Enjoy paying $15 for a $8 bag of coffee though, this is only the beginning. I hope all world leaders treat Trump like the stupid dirtbag he is. Also, he's a rapist and a felon and should be treated like one.

Money is going into AT Protocol to build up to what ActivityPub already is

It's a bit VHS vs Betamax, but commercial interests are also going to skew towards AT.
in reply to mattlqx

I really don't see why people are funding a second Protocol. ActivityPub is perfectly fine and be expanded for those few cases it's not enough. I'm glad we at least have a bridge with @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy but that's an opt in thing that users on both sides need to follow. It just kind of sucks that Bluesky and AT Protocol is getting more attention than the Fediverse and ActivityPub knowing we've proven that we can create more than just one platform with our protocol.

It all started to go even more rapidly to hell when media started calling it "internet" rather than "Internet".

"Yet Californians pay the second highest rates for electricity in the country. That’s not because of renewables, but in part because utilities’ electrical equipment has set off wildfires — like the Camp Fire started by Pacific Gas and Electric’s power lines, which devastated the town of Paradise and killed 85 people — and now they’re passing the costs that come from lawsuits and burying transmission lines to their customers" grist.org/energy/california-ju…
in reply to Arthur Charpentier ⏚

And we can especially think a botched privatization of the energy grid for a lot of it.

There’s a detail about PG&E that’s worth mentioning. The company is split into two parts the energy generation part in the energy distribution part. The latter division is burdened and laden with all the company’s debt. And the energy division is free to peddle energy off.

I don’t doubt that the many thousands of farmers who will face extreme trouble if not bankruptcy because of the pogrom, will end up selling to Bill Gates and another billionaires. They all have this fetish now for founding futuristic cities.

The Libertarians were very enamored of the idea of founding city states where the there is an owner functioning as an absolute ruler

We’re out and about today for a drive in the country. We’ve stopped to charge up first and an electric motorcycle just rocked up to charge too.

Trump admin testing a method to email every federal employee at the same time, for faster delivery of fascist orders. If that distribution pipeline is ever hacked, it's going to be quite a show.

3 weeks of using #Linux as my daily driver. Started with #Mintlinux to wet my lips a little. Think I'll switch to #Arch soon (by the way).

Been learning about i3 tiling window manager.

Never expected to get such an increase in battery life switching to Linux! 8h battery life is crazy!

Help with Decluttarr

My friend just shared the existence of this software with me, and it looks perfect for me. His setup uses docker though, and mine doesn't. The non-docker instructions seem simple enough, but I can't figure out how to install the requirements. The "pip install" complains and says I should use apt, but I can't find most of those requirements in my sources. For example "python3-verboselogs" isn't found. Can someone help? I'd love to get this running!

This story as written is deceptive and omits key facts.

#Colombia DID NOT reject repatriation of its citizens. It rejected the landing of military planes and the handling of its citizens in chains as criminals. The norm for repatriation is to deliver people unbound in civilian planes. Colombia upheld its duty to protect the dignity and bodies of its citizens, consistent with international treaties, which the US was violating.

English media is routinely distorting the facts.
