Il Mali sospende tutte le attività politiche fino a nuovo ordine.
La recente decisione del governo militare del Mali, guidato dal presidente di transizione, il generale Assimi Goita, di sospendere tutte le attività politiche nel paese “fino a nuovo avviso” rappresenta un significativo passo indietro per la democrazia maliana, ammesso che qualche barlume ancora resistesse. Il decreto, firmato mercoledì, giustifica tale azione con “ragioni di ordine pubblico”, e si applica sia ai partiti politici che alle organizzazioni civili. Questa mossa arriva a pochi giorni di distanza da una rara manifestazione pro-democrazia e prima di una protesta prevista per venerdì contro la giunta, che ha preso il potere attraverso colpi di stato nel 2020 e nel 2021.
La decisione di sospendere le attività politiche non sorprende molti osservatori. Cheick Oumar Doumbia, uno dei leader dell’opposizione, ha dichiarato: “Non sono sorpreso, me lo aspettavo perché questo è il loro modo di impedirci di svolgere le nostre attività, ma continueremo a difendere la democrazia in Mali”. Questa dichiarazione evidenzia la determinazione di alcuni attivisti a perseverare nella loro lotta per la democrazia, nonostante le restrizioni imposte.
In risposta una coalizione di dozzine di partiti politici si è unita per chiedere “la fine effettiva della transizione politico-militare entro il 31 dicembre” e il ripristino dell’ordine costituzionale. Questo movimento rappresenta un’importante azione di opposizione in un contesto già delicato, dove la stabilità e la legittimità del governo sono messe in discussione. Sabato 10 maggio 2025 la nuova coalizione ha organizzato una protesta che ha visto la partecipazione di diverse centinaia di persone nella capitale, Bamako. I manifestanti hanno espresso il loro malcontento contro le decisioni del governo militare, richiedendo un ritorno immediato a un sistema democratico e rappresentativo. Questa mobilitazione riflette il crescente desiderio dei cittadini di partecipare attivamente alla vita politica del paese, dopo anni di instabilità e cambiamenti di regime. Inoltre è prevista una nuova manifestazione nei prossimi giorni, e ciò denota una certa tensione fra il governo e le forze di opposizione. Nel corso dell’evento gli attivisti della società civile, partiti politici e leader sindacali hanno chiesto un “rapido e credibile ritorno all’ordine costituzionale attraverso l’organizzazione di elezioni trasparenti, inclusive e pacifiche”. La giunta militare aveva inizialmente promesso di organizzare elezioni nel febbraio 2022, ma quel termine è stato posticipato più volte, alimentando così il malcontento tra i cittadini e gli attivisti. Fra parentesi ciò è accaduto anche in Burkina Faso; pare che i golpisti di tutto il mondo siano profondamente affezionati alle loro poltrone; ma è solo perché lo chiede loro il popolo…
Questa non è la prima volta che il governo militare del Mali sospende le attività politiche in prossimità di decisioni importanti. Nel aprile 2024, ad esempio, fu annunciata una sospensione in vista di un “dialogo inter-maliano” che proponeva l’estensione del periodo di transizione da due a cinque anni. La mancanza di una governance democratica e la dilatazione dei tempi per i processi elettorali sollevano serie preoccupazioni riguardo alla legittimità e alla stabilità del regime attuale.
Nel frattempo i terroristi continuano ad imperversare nel paese, al di là dei proclami del regime che, come negli altri stati del Sahel, cerca di mettere a tacere le notizie riguardanti gli attacchi di jihadisti e ribelli Tuareg. Il ritorno ad una parvenza di normalità nella società è sempre più distante.
