Morta improvvisamente Koyo Kouoh, camerunense curatrice della Biennale di Venezia 2026.
Solo pochi mesi fa avevamo accolto con entusiasmo la notizia che la Biennale di Venezia aveva scelto Koyo Kouoh, originaria del Camerun, come prima curatrice donna e di origine africana per l’edizione del 2026. Oggi siamo invece qui ad annunciarne la prematura dipartita, avvenuta lo scorso 10 maggio 2025, a soli 57 anni. La causa pare essere stata un cancro fulminante.
Sgomento il mondo dell’arte, a partire dall’organizzazione della Biennale: «La sua morte lascia un vuoto immenso nel mondo dell’arte contemporanea e nella comunità internazionale di artisti, curatori e studiosi, che hanno apprezzato il suo straordinario impegno intellettuale e umano».
L’Ufficio Stampa e Comunicazione MiC ha rilasciato il seguente comunicato:
“È con grande sconcerto – dichiara il Ministro della Cultura Alessandro Giuli – che apprendo la notizia della prematura scomparsa di Koyo Kouoh, curatrice della 61. Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte della Biennale di Venezia che si terrà il prossimo anno. La sua nomina era stata salutata con entusiasmo in tutto il mondo, grandi erano le aspettative per quello che con la sua passione, conoscenza e professionalità avrebbe saputo offrire nell’allestimento di uno dei maggiori eventi per l’arte contemporanea a livello globale. In questo momento di profondo dolore voglio esprimere ai suoi cari e alla Biennale di Venezia le condoglianze e la vicinanza mia e del Ministero della Cultura“.
Ma al di là delle istituzioni e del mondo accademico, lo sconcerto ha travolto tutto il mondo dell’arte e degli appassionati. Della sua carriera avevamo già scritto nel precedente articolo. Del suo lavoro artistico rimarranno le opere, le installazioni, i suoi scritti, a testimoniare una vita troppo breve ed il rammarico per ciò che poteva ancora dare al mondo dell’arte.
