Nieman Lab's Gretel Kahn spoke to editors and journalists in Spain, Sweden, the U.S. and the U.S. about what that might look like. I think a lot of the issue is editorial choices, not so much at the individual journalist level.
There's much better and more concise news from #tiktok than from the evening news, and that's mostly due to what each chooses to cover, and how much time is wasted on flash over substance.

"Quando se discute a tributação sobre as empresas, é frequente ouvir-se o argumento de que Portugal tem a taxa estatutária mais alta da União Europeia. Mas a verdade é que é muito difícil - para não dizer impossível - encontrar uma empresa que a pague. Quando olhamos para taxa média efetiva - isto é, a taxa que as empresas pagam efetivamente, depois de descontados os benefícios e deduções -, o valor é muito inferior: em 2023, foi de 18,5%, de acordo com os dados mais recentes da Autoridade Tributária.
As taxas de imposto que as empresas pagam efetivamente não só são bastante mais baixas do que a taxa máxima, como têm vindo a diminuir em praticamente todos os setores da economia nos últimos dez anos. Neste cenário, é difícil argumentar que uma nova redução marginal do IRC tenham um impacto muito expressivo sobre o investimento do setor privado.
Tendo isso em conta, a questão que se coloca é: quem ganha verdadeiramente com a medida? Quando olhamos para os dados da AT sobre a distribuição do IRC liquidado por dimensão das empresas, o que vemos é que mais de metade da receita é paga pelas empresas com volume de negócio superior a 25 milhões de euros, que representam... menos de 1% do tecido empresarial do país.
Além disso, se olharmos para o IRC liquidado por setor de atividade, mais de metade da receita é proveniente de cinco setores: o setor financeiro, o imobiliário, a construção, o alojamento e restauração e o comércio.
Estes dados dizem-nos duas coisas:
1. Uma redução do IRC beneficia de forma desproporcional as grandes empresas;
2. A maior parte dos ganhos concentra-se em setores com pouco potencial para a transformação estrutural da economia e que, com níveis de receita e de lucros avultados nos últimos anos, não precisam de incentivos."
