A Portable M4 Mac mini
The Mac mini is the closest to an Apple-based SBC you can get, so it lends itself to unusual portable computers. [Scott Yu-Jan] is back to tackle a portable build using the latest and greatest M4 mini.
[Yu-Jan] walks us through his thought process of how to maximize the portability of the system without all that tedious mucking about with setting up a separate keyboard, monitor, and the mini while on the go. With the more complicated electronics, the monitor risked tipping the keyboard over when attached, particularly since [Yu-Jan] isn’t a fan of batteries for his portables.
By affixing the Mac mini to the side of the keyboard, it makes the whole thing easier to slip into a bag without being overly thick. We get a peek into his iterative process as well when he evaluates the build and decides that the closing of the lid wasn’t what he was hoping for. By adding some TPU rests for the monitor to rest on in the closed position, he says it’s really brought the whole project up a notch. We certainly have had our own projects where one little detail really moves it from sketchy to polished, and we appreciate when makers clue us in on where that happened for them.

Em um relatório explosivo publicado pelo New York Times, novas informações indicam o porquê da administração do presidente Donald Trump decidir encerrar a campanha militar contra os houthis no Iêmen. Essa decisão foi motivada pela crescente capacidade dos houthis de infligir baixas às forças estadunidenses e pelo custo insustentável das operações.
Revelações espetaculares
Entre as informações reveladas, destaca-se que o general Michael Kurilla, comandante do Comando Central dos EUA (CENTCOM), iniciou ataques contra os houthis em novembro de 2023. O general havia proposto uma campanha de oito a dez meses, na qual aviões de guerra da Força Aérea e da Marinha eliminariam os sistemas de defesa aérea houthis antes de uma operação de assassinato direcionada. No entanto, após 18 meses de conflitos, os resultados mostraram-se desastrosos.
Nos primeiros 30 dias da operação, os houthis conseguiram abater sete drones MQ-9, cada um avaliado em cerca de US$ 30 milhões. Essa perda prejudicou significativamente a capacidade do CENTCOM de monitorar e atacar o grupo militante. Além disso, vários F-16 e um caça F-35 quase foram atingidos pelas defesas aéreas houthis, aumentando o risco de baixas, conforme relataram autoridades dos EUA.
Custos elevadíssimos e muita preocupação
O custo da operação foi alarmante. O Pentágono mobilizou dois porta-aviões, bombardeiros B-2 adicionais, caças e sistemas de defesa aérea Patriot e THAAD para a região do Oriente Médio. Ao final do primeiro mês, os gastos já ultrapassavam US$ 1 bilhão. A intensa utilização de munições de precisão, especialmente as de longo alcance, levantou preocupações entre os planejadores de contingência do Pentágono sobre os estoques disponíveis e as implicações para uma possível defesa contra uma tentativa de invasão da Taiwan pela China.
