For anyone ever looking for good linux backup software, I've been using restic for around a year now, and it's great.
It has compression, encrypted backups, and, especially, it's clear how robustly written it is from the docs. (It also supports a bunch of different cloud providers, for storing to them)

Mich erinnern die beiden an Hitler und Stalin. Meine Großeltern lebten damals, wie viele Einwanderer aus Süddeutschland, in Bessarabien. Um genau zu sein, in dem Teil, der heute zur Ukraine gehört.
Als der Hitler-Stalin-Pakt gebrochen wurde, saßen sie, so wie halb Europa, zwischen den beiden. Die Aufteilung in Ost und West lief ab da noch gewaltsamer.

I don't even really remember why I chose resticprofile over rolling my own scripts. Maybe because it already does quite a few of the things that I would've had to build on my own.
