I have been waiting for a Trump era espionage novel. Just read A Spy Alone by former MI6, Charles Beaumont. Nice ripping yarn but also the best yet analysis of the current coup of globalized oligarchs and propagandists against "the masses" and citizens of every nation. Maybe painting - I can do that, and my alleged AuDHD means I'm pretty good at the 'cutting in' round the edges, and the 'fiddly bits' where I'm happy with a little modelling brush and getting it 'perfect' 😂 🤣

Yes, kinda, @suearcher already replied on our behalf with a link to Chris' write up on Boothstown Repair Cafe.
I think one thing to keep in mind is that you need more than repair volunteers.
Make sure you have good organisers and admin volunteers to start with. There will be people and paperwork to keep on top of from day one, and they will also need to make sure that repair volunteers are not inundated with repairs, and that they get the repairs that they are able to do.
A simple triage at the client sign up can determine who gets the DAB radio, who gets the ripped jeans, and who gets the kid's bike, for example.
Also all repairers need to have time to drink tea, and eat biscuits, if they need to, between repairs, and to have time out from a challenging repair or client.
When we did four repair cafes, one every weekend, it was very taxing, more so if we felt unsupported.

Yes, one of the things that really got to Sue and I, on occasions with a couple of repair cafes, was the feeling that we were getting taken for granted, that we'd always be there, and would work like the clappers to repair everything unsupported and without a break.
The meet and greet volunteers we like have been the ones who checked what the repair was, and developed an understanding of how involved it would be. They would then check if a repairer was up to the task of something very involved, and also remind the repairer to stop and have a break if they looked like they needed it.
Also all the volunteers need a little socialising time to get to know each other too. That way we feel comfortable asking each other for help and advice, or to borrow a tool, or to ask for, or offer, clean up stuff after a messy vacuum cleaner.

some repair events especially in smaller places can only guarantee one or two fixers in place, and the understanding is that the person repairs their *own* product with guidance from the expert
