In-house service is provided directly by the OEM. This can be either at a physical location or through mail-in service.
Apple, for example, provides in-house service through Genius Bars.
Authorized service providers work directly with OEMs to provide repair services. This can also be in-person or mail-in service.
Google partners with uBreakiFix to expand their reach while staying involved in the repair process.
Independent service providers don’t work with OEMs (besides possibly ordering parts or tools). Instead, they rely on experience and publicly available resources to offer repair services.
For many people, ISPs can be cheaper and more convenient.
Self-repair means having the parts, tools, and instructions you need to fix stuff yourself.
HP and other OEMs work with iFixit to write repair guides and sell complete Fix Kits.
This is usually the cheapest, most convenient, and most secure way to get something fixed.

(Though really, the proper way to put this is: I would buy/read a book that was "AI"-free, and I *would not* spend my precious time or money one that I knew was produced with "AI".)
But I'm against these badges taking hold and becoming a standard thing. Why?

in reply to Kagan MacTane (he/him) • • •Because marking stuff specially as sans-"AI" means normalizing the idea that things — artistic things! — *are expected* to have "AI" in them. And I want to fight that, relentlessly.
I don't want the default assumption to be that artistic works are made with "AI". I want people to have to mark it when they *do* use "AI". (Leaving aside the fact that "AI" "creators" would probably just lie and slap the badge on their stuff anyway.)

We're supposed to just assume poisonousness, in the absence of a label explicitly telling us it isn't. That's what this "No AI" badge would be like.
