We watched each other’s property since post-fire break-ins began when the sheriff ’s department was stretched too thin to do proper patrols. We complained en masse to Frontier Communications and PG&E for their lackluster delivery of services — as monopolies, they are not prone to put a high priority on customer service. Post-evacuation, we’ve learned a good deal about ourselves. Our humanity came back to us. Our strength was forged in fire."
