Veleda (around 69–77 CE) was a seeress of the Bructeri, a Germanic people who achieved some prominence during the Batavian rebellion of 69–70 CE, headed by the Romanized Batavian chieftain Gaius Julius Civilis.
The ancient Germanic peoples discerned a divinity of prophecy in women and regarded prophetesses as true and living goddesses.In the latter half of the 1st century CE Veleda was regarded as a deity by most of the tribes in central Germany and enjoyed wide influence. She lived in a tower near the Lippe River, a tributary of the Rhine. The inhabitants of the Roman settlement of Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium (now Cologne) accepted her arbitration in a conflict with the Tencteri, an unfederated tribe of Germany.
The Batavian leader Civilis originally raised his force as an ally of Vespasian during the Roman power struggle in 69 CE, but when he saw the weakened condition of the legions in Romanized Germany he openly revolted. The revolt was joined by Julius Classicus and Julius Tutor, leaders of the Treviri who like Civilis were Roman citizens.The Roman garrison at Novaesium (now Neuss) surrendered without a fight. The commander of the Roman garrison, Munius Lupercus, was sent to Veleda, though he was killed en route. Later, when the praetorian trireme was captured, it was rowed upriver on the Lippe as a gift to Veleda.
A strong show of force by nine Roman legions under Gaius Licinius Mucianus caused the rebellion to collapse. Civilis was cornered on his home island of Batavia on the lower Rhine; his fate is unknown. In Veleda's case, she was left at liberty for several years.
In 77 CE the Romans captured her. According to Statius, her captor was then-Governor of Germania Inferior Rutilius Gallicus. A Greek epigram has been found at Ardea, a few kilometres south of Rome, that satirizes her prophetic powers.

"Secondo il sociologo della Chapman University della California, Andrea Molle, intervistato dalla RAI[76], “l’ideologia del Gruppo Wagner, che si associa alla sua dimensione per così dire aziendale, associa il neonazismo con il neopaganesimo slavo molto diffuso in Russia a partire dagli anni ‘70 del secolo scorso. Io parlerei di una forma esoterica di nazismo”. Il professore fa esplicito riferimento ad una particolare “declinazione dell’ideologia nazionalsocialista” con la quale venivano fusi gli elementi classici del nazismo con altri tipici del misticismo, occultismo ed esoterismo in voga in Germania a cavallo tra il 1800 ed il 1900. “Il Gruppo Wagner - afferma - riprende alcuni di questi contenuti nella propria estetica, come l’uso di rune sui propri mezzi, e nelle ritualità che sembrano caratterizzarlo”. Il sociologo parla anche di contatti tra Wagner e gli ambienti legati all’ultra destra e nazionalisti russi, i cui militanti sarebbero in larga parte impiegati anche nelle operazioni militari in Ucraina, ma non solo russi. Spiega anche che “abbiamo notizie di rapporti tra il gruppo Wagner e altri gruppi di estrema destra in Europa, ma anche negli Stati Uniti e in altri paesi del mondo. Alcuni ricercatori sostengono che negli ultimi anni, membri di gruppi estremisti (ad esempio tedeschi) e dei paesi dell’est Europa abbiano partecipato a sessioni di addestramento organizzate dalle PMC (private military company) russe tra le quali è ragionevole pensare anche il Gruppo Wagner”. Un ruolo determinante nella formazione e nell’addestramento delle milizie non ufficiali delle quali si avvale il Cremlino spetta, come si è visto, al Movimento Imperiale Russo, al quale ha dedicato attenzione anche il Centro per la Sicurezza e la Cooperazione Internazionale (CISAC)[77] centro di ricerca della prestigiosa Università di Stanford in California. Secondo il CISAC, il MIR “è un'organizzazione militante della supremazia bianca di estrema destra con sede a San Pietroburgo, in Russia. Fondato nel 2002, il gruppo promuove il nazionalismo etnico russo, sostiene la restaurazione del regime zarista russo e cerca di alimentare l'estremismo della supremazia bianca in Occidente. MIR (o RIM) mantiene contatti con gruppi neonazisti e suprematisti bianchi in Europa e negli Stati Uniti."

Earth's mantle is gooey, and the crust forms a solid shell that can slide around on top of it. Weight on the crust that causes it to shift relative to the mantle also shifts the location of Earth's poles, the researchers said.

it sort of makes sense in that LLM chatbots on a social network need access to the entire firehose to operate, and atproto is the only network really thats suitable for that. big tech doesnt have access to firehose at all (or insane prices for X), fedi will murder you if you build a firehose. so bsky is really the only option left (well nostr and farcaster, but then its a matter of audience size)
