A Corgi’s Cozy Hike launched today on Steam—a bite-sized 3D platforming collect-a-thon that wears its heart (and butt wiggle) on its sleeve.

Now, having played the demo, I’ll be honest: I’m on the fence here. For the asking price, this thing lacks polish. Textures have noticeable pixelation where they shouldn’t, the UI fonts are rough, and there’s a general “student project” vibe that keeps it from landing cleanly alongside its inspirations.

That said, it is fun. The pitch is basically Banjo-Kazooie goes to the dog park. You bound across grassy cliffs, dig up bones, nab squeaky toys, and generally act like the happiest corgi in the world. The game is self-aware enough to lean hard into canine antics, and if you’re one of those people who can’t scroll past a corgi GIF without smiling, this will be pure serotonin.

There are quirks, though, that feel like design stubbornness. The devs really want you playing with a gamepad—nag screens and all. Personally, I think it’s 2025 and keyboard/mouse should be more than viable in a 3D platformer by now. But if you’re in the gamepad camp, it works fine with both Xbox and PlayStation controllers.

On the tech side: native Windows and Mac support, and Linux runs just fine through Proton. No major complaints there.

Where it gets tricky is price. At C$20.79, this isn’t exactly budget-gem territory, especially for something that feels more “cozy afternoon project” than fully-fledged release. But here’s the hook: 10% of all revenue goes straight to dog shelters. Since 2019, developer Scalisco has donated over $20K through their games. So you’re not just buying a corgi romp—you’re literally helping real dogs.

So yeah, I’m mixed. A little undercooked for the cost, but undeniably charming and backed by a good cause. If you want a cozy weekend with corgi energy (and don’t mind funding a few rescue pups in the process), it might be worth a look.

I actually do think it's worth pointing out how in a time of overt fascism, white trans people are also becoming more reactionary and facist overall, because that has real ramifications for Black trans people, who already bear the brunt of anti-trans violence.

I'll say that again: by every meaningful metric, Black trans people bear the brunt of transphobic violence. Not white trans people. And white trans people are not organizing en masse in any real way to change this fact.

And to be clear: White trans people are not becoming more reactionary and facist because they're trans, it's because they're white. And in a white supremacist society, white people will always be white first. Race traitors are rare, very rare. Us Black folks remaining real clear on this point is what will help to keep us safe and keep us from fates like that of Sam Nordquist.
