I am designing a smart alarm clock to replace the one in my phone, because I can turn off that alarm in my sleep, which isn't conductive to actually getting up on time.

Here's some of the features it will have:
- Home assistant integration! Trigger scenes, automations and more when alarms go off, or only make alarms go off if somebody is home
- Getting current time from ntp, changing automatically for DST etc.
- Automatic skipping of alarms on bank holidays (enter country and state during setup)
- Different schedules for different days of the week
- Play mp3 files as alarm sounds
- eInk screen to show the time
- Push notification to your phone 5 minutes after the alarm has been turned off, if notifications aren't interacted with, the alarm goes off again
- No snooze feature
- Ability to set skip days (eg don't wake me up next week since I won't be home)
- (potentially) ability to use as a bluetooth speaker
- (unlikely but would be cool) ability to use as an airplay speaker

Software will be open source, so even if I stop supporting it (which is unlikely since it'll be my alarm clock too) others can step in to keep their devices functioning.

If you're generally interested in a device like that (no "internet of shit" style comments please), what features would you like to have in it?

I'm designing a sunset bedside lamp, dfferent featureset (it intends to help you sleep.rather than wake up, but it can be a sunrise alarm just as well) but similar place. Free software code, raspberry pico, neopixel. Happy to swap notes

So, I guess we all have our perfect temperature. :dracthyr_sweat:

this year I notticed interesting pattern. If it's sunny day up to 24°C, maybe 25 is good. If sky is half clouded or more, up to 28°C feels cool. If it's both sunny and hot breathing while outside is unpleasant and exhausting.

The video begins with a close-up view of the interior of a Cord 810 from 1936, showcasing the green dashboard and steering wheel. A hand is seen interacting with the car's controls, highlighting the vintage design. The scene transitions to an exterior view of the Cord 810, displaying its green paint and classic design, including the front grille and headlights, set against a residential backdrop. The video then shifts to a Chevrolet Corvair Monza GT from 1962, featuring a sleek, silver body with a modern design, including a prominent front grille and headlights. The Monza GT is shown in a garage setting, emphasizing its aerodynamic shape and contemporary styling. The video contrasts the vintage Cord 810 with the modern Corvair Monza GT, showcasing the evolution of automotive design over the decades.

Indeed — it's quite good!

What'd you enjoy about our episode? 😀

@chris

I think the funding problem comes down to not having an open protocol for fiat transfer. we need new norms around support too, but it's currently too big an ask for most people in this space to use crypto or have a middleman when avoiding those are a big part of why we are here. we'd be fine with our own banks acting like fiat fedi servers. if I understand correctly, #WebMonetization is pursuing exactly this and I wish we could all rally around it for the good of the #SocialWeb.

The video demonstrates the process of parking a car next to another vehicle on the side of a road. It begins with a view of two cars, a white one and a black one, parked parallel to each other. The road is marked with a green bike lane, and the surrounding area is a park with trees and a grassy area. The text "РАВНЯЕМСЯ С АВТОМОБИЛЕМ" (Align with the car) appears, indicating the initial step of aligning the car with the other vehicle.

The video then shows a close-up of a steering wheel with the text "ВЫКРУЧИВАЕМ РУЛЬ ВПРАВО" (Turn the wheel to the right), demonstrating the action of turning the steering wheel to the right. The next frame shows the car's rearview mirror with the text "ПОКА В ЛЕВОМ ЗЕРКАЛЕ" (Until in the left mirror), indicating the driver should wait until the other car is visible in the left mirror.

The video continues with a close-up of the rear of the white car, showing the text "НЕ УВИДЕМ ОБЕ ФАРЫ АВТО" (We will not see both headlights of the car), emphasizing the importance of not seeing both headlights of the adjacent car. The final frames show the car reversing into the parking space, with the text "ВЫКРУЧИВАЕМ РУЛЬ ВЛЕВО" (Turn the wheel to the left), indicating the final step of turning the steering wheel to the left to complete the parking maneuver. The video concludes with the white car successfully parked next to the black car, with the text "И СДАЕМ НАЗАД" (And reverse) appearing on the screen.

in reply to Not🐧A🐧Convicted🐧Felon

@sleepyfox Thank you! My very non-expert opinion is that "AI" doesn't exist because it's a marketing term, so nobody knows/agrees on what it means. There are different machine learning techniques and they are real. LLMs are very unlikely to be intelligent. It might be the biggest scam in software history. That said, I can see "web-scale auto-complete" being useful at least for some parts of software development.

🌕 我們真的分散化了嗎?
➤ 以赫芬達爾—赫希曼指數(HHI)量化 Fediverse 與 Bluesky 的資料集中度
arewedecentralizedyet.online/
