The article makes it seem like it was a badly worded statement! Instances can do registration by approval, so they can use whatever mechanism they want to do age verification if they choose to; and, admin notes let them store the info on profiles if they want to. So, it's still up to each instance to choose whether to comply, but their framing as reported was unfortunate. I asked Andy Piper if they could release the statement (or some public sttaement), he said they're working on it.

she had one of the first blogs (1995±) in USA and used to write about her guru and how PETA was an extension of their ascetism/janseism. and somehow nyc became a battleground for them in the 1990s, attacking random people at supermarkets while raising millions for sexy ads on Vogue.
PETA’s tactics here in nyc have always clouded my POV ―and am a yogini (+30 years).

That current bubbles close to the surface frequently, to the point where it seems like following sound advice--like eating WFPB--is an entree to a cult.
Also starting to cringe when I see fitness instructors. They look more and more like priests in the same cult--or MLM.
