I think the bug I resolved (I wouldn't say fixed) in @novelwriter today is the weirdest I've encountered so far.
The app uses @-based keywords to set meta data in the text. An auto-complete menu pops up to suggest which keyword when you type an @ on a new line.
In the current version (at least) if you have the editor "justified margins" set, type an @, then type backspace, then *and only then* will Qt/PyQt segfault and crash the app.

Gators -> clothe masks of various styles (and the assorted accessories we inevitably needed/wanted to make them more comfortable) -> KN95s.
Not pictured because we used them up, the hosptial style blue/white jobs.
We had two cubbies in our going outside coat rack dedicated to masks. Consolidated down to just one that is just the KN95s.

Basically, it happens because I'm bypassing the context menu event handler. If I release it first, the bug goes away. So I'm doing something unexpected in the first place.
Secondly, I have had plenty of issues with the garbage collectors in Python and Qt conflicting, causing segfaults. Signals queued up and one side with objects being deleted too soon can also be a cause. So I need to reproduce the issue in pure C++ to check if it's Qt's fault.

in reply to Veronica Olsen π³οΈβππ³π΄π» • • •The completer menu pops up on a bunch of other things, like a line starting with % and also when referencing your own previously used tags in the meta data. But it is only on @ it crashes, and only if justified text is enabled.
I do have a hacky bit of code here. The Qt context menu event handler takes precedence when it's open, so I forward most keypresses back to the editor as this is how auto-complete menus generally work. This triggers a document change signal which is where it goes wrong.

What is so puzzling is why it only happens on an @ character and only if the text has justified margins! π
