Over the last few days, I updated the current entries on this wikipage about blockchain-related social media projects;

wiki.p2pfoundation.net/Blockch…

About 1/3 of the projects in the list are still active in some form. None of them seem to have achieved a critical mass of use outside the bubble universe of crypto. Only one has now implemented ActivityPub (and previously Matrix for their in-house chat), and that one never pitched itself as decentralised.

i think that used to be true but realistically at this point in 2025 99.9% of the idealists have been washed out of the space and it's been completely overrun with grifters.

there are numerous former idealists who have become sceptics and have made very public criticisms to this effect.

in reply to ⚯ Michel de Cryptadamus ⚯

@cryptadamist That's fair.

It's a shame, because there are probably a handful of edge cases where blockchains are exactly the right tool for the job. But the hype bubble and the financial grifting has produced so much antipathy, that it's hard to make an argument for using them. Even where they are demonstrably the right engineering choice.

A bit like the way chronic overuse of JavaScript has poisoned some people against any use of it, however situationally appropriate.

Bird watchers.

Chilli is the only one among my dogs who looks for and loves chasing flying birds. They indulge her by flying low to call her closer then go up and around the meadow. The birds too clearly enjoy this game.

This style book I am reading makes me cringe. 😬

@NilaJones @gabbywheels

Ooh, if dark green and purple are good for you there's a good chance royal blue would be good, too. Also a bold red. (But that's a color statement not everyone likes to make!)

in reply to Mother Bones

@_L1vY_ @NilaJones @gabbywheels Blue is a good question. I have been wearing a brighter blue set of shirts recently, and I realize it is actually NOT a good color for me.

I have a light green shirt, and a dark green shirt, and those shirts are the only ones where I get comments or compliments (which is why I think green is my better color). I think black would theoretically work, but I avoid it because it's definitely a "you are a tourist from overseas/foreigner" look for someone with my skin tone... definitely avoiding that right now, too.

in reply to AI6YR Ben

@_L1vY_ @NilaJones @gabbywheels

So, I love that color of blue and I am very uncomfortable around bees. Bees love that color. Once I realized that and made all my bright, royal blue clothes indoor only, I have had much less trouble with bees.

I mention this based on your other hobbies 😀 🐝 .

in reply to J Miller

@JMMaok @_L1vY_ @NilaJones @gabbywheels Very interesting... I don't find bees at all color reactive beekeeping. Smell reactive though, YES. They do not like specific smells (and colognes/perfumes).
in reply to AI6YR Ben

@_L1vY_ @NilaJones @gabbywheels

I notice an effect of scents, too. I uncap a bottle of peppermint essential oil near me as a low key bug repellent. (I also dislike toxic bug spray). When I tried some floral essential oils for fun, definitely had bees in my face.

I always kind of expected bees would go for bright pinks and reds. That’s not it! Try the bright blue.

in reply to J Miller

@JMMaok @_L1vY_ @NilaJones @gabbywheels

If you ever want to die via bee attack, douse yourself in the fake banana smell you can smell in banana "Runts" candy, and go into a bee yard. 💀 😱

(when they are angry, that is the smell they release. Very, very, very bad. Run away!)

in reply to AI6YR Ben

@JMMaok @_L1vY_ @NilaJones @gabbywheels indeed - when we taught undergrad #Chemistry lab, for the preparation of isoamyl acetate we told students they'd know they had the oily compound made from the banana-y smell of the ester. And also that if any one had a beekeeping class after wash up well or skip the class as the odor was the attack pheromone of honey bees

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isoamy…

in reply to AI6YR Ben

@_L1vY_ @NilaJones @gabbywheels There used to be a popular service called “color typing”. A company would train a woman in color theory as applies to clothing. Then she would have her sets of color cards and be invited into a home where the hostess and all her friends were there for a color typing party. Anyone else remember these?

I’ll never forget this: a color is good for you when people say “YOU look great!” Instead of “That’s a wonderful dress/sweater/shirt”. It’s true!

I’m an artist so I personally like many earth tones. All along I looked better in blue/gray/purples and pink. I totally became a believer with clothes I wore in sales. I started buying business clothes at thrift stores in “my colors”. Days I wore them, I generally did well with my sales calls.

in reply to cobalt

@cobalt123 @NilaJones @gabbywheels Yes. It was Color Me Beautiful. I still swear by it! 😄

Anyone can wear almost any color, you just have to know which hue of that color suits you.

(I had the book, in the '80s. Second-hand. But the system has been expanded a whole lot of times since then!)

@_L1vY_ @cobalt123 @NilaJones @gabbywheels Yes, I do remember it that way. I was a winter, but the only hues of yellow orange or pink were supposed to be the really pale, cool shades like 'ice yellow' The truth is, I still pretty much stick to it 😅

@coolandnormal @_L1vY_ @cobalt123 @NilaJones @gabbywheels My wardrobe mostly is this stuff. But, obviously the grays aren't very distinguishable. They don't show the awful combos I have worn lol (the "summer" blues probably, I guess they don't go with my skin tone very well, and also the "winter" blues - or brighter -- even though I own some shirts like that LOL). And I have some event t-shirts which mix all these palettes on the logos and look terrible (even I can tell).
in reply to AI6YR Ben

@_L1vY_ @cobalt123 @NilaJones @gabbywheels I'm from Melbourne so my wardrobe is 90% black year round. It's not particularly goth or anything, it's just what Melbournites do.

Real cranberry juice (which you can buy in bottles, but it's harder to find) is vegetarian, and has nothing in it but cranberries and water. You're talking about cranberry juice cocktail, and that's mostly sweetened water.

Wow.

This product is labelled as "100% cranberry juice" on the web page, and "100% unsweetened Juice: Cranberry Juice (fine print: blend of 4 juices from concentrate with added ingredients)" on the bottle.

The ingredients: "FILTERED WATER, CONCENTRATED JUICES, (APPLE, CRANBERRY, PEAR, GRAPE), NATURAL FLAVOR, PECTIN, COCHINEAL, CITRIC ACID, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C)"

tropicaldelight.com/products/1…

However, when I've looked for other products, many on older lists that list products with cochineal or carmine now seem to have other coloring agents instead in their modern ingredient labels, I think a lot of companies realized that no one expected that their products weren't vegetarian, and there can be allergy issues with the dye.
