<p>Just a couple of months ago, I celebrated my 11th year with Rappler. In those 11 years, I’ve had a front-row seat to the evolution of the social media landscape — from a promising space for connection into a battlefield for truth. My team’s role evolved with it. </p>
<p>I’m <a href="https://api-esp-ap.piano.io/-c/130/38565/496591/14822171/259137/eaeda9e04627fcff1b8b91fedda13499/-1/-1?attrs=0&order=0">Kaye Cabal</a>, and I lead a versatile team of millennials and GenZs now called the community growth & development unit. We previously focused solely on distributing Rappler’s content on social platforms, prioritizing views and engagement. But we were forced to adapt when we saw firsthand how the landscape turned toxic and was weaponized, allowing corruption to thrive while we’re left distracted and divided.</p>
<p>After years of treating social media as my own personal playground, I learned that the very algorithms designed to keep us all engaged often reward the most divisive content, burying the fact-based journalism needed to hold power to account. Now that we are tasked to pivot and shift our view of the online space, we face the challenge of providing our community with a better news experience and a safe space for engagement on the Rappler site.</p>

Se siamo sicuri che quello linkato è l’account ufficiale del Post non ho nessun problema a interrompere il mio bot e postare un messaggio per avvisare gli utenti di seguire solo quello.
Ma quello che credo (così, a prima vista) è che quell’account non sia de Il Post ma di Flipboard, che ripubblica nel fediverso gli articoli delle varie testate che aggrega.

À l’approche du 10 septembre, date annoncée pour une nouvelle mobilisation sociale qui s'annonce massive, nous avons demandé à Rachel Keke, ancienne députée insoumise et figure de la lutte des femmes de chambre de l’Ibis Batignolles, ce qu’elle pense du climat politique et social. Sa réponse est sans détour : « La France ne va pas du tout. Le peuple souffre. Le 10 septembre, il ne faudra pas se contenter d’un jour ou deux de grève. Il faut bloquer jusqu’à ce que ce gouvernement recule. »
Élue en 2022 après avoir mené une grève victorieuse de 22 mois, Rachel Keke estime que sa voix reste attendue : « Les Français me disent encore : ta place est à l’Assemblée nationale. Parce que je parlais avec le cœur, avec l’expérience de celles et ceux qui survivent avec 700 ou 800 euros par mois. » Elle se souvient des débats sur l’augmentation du SMIC : « On proposait de le porter à 1 500 euros. La droite et l’extrême droite ont refusé. Je me suis dit : mais on rêve ! Comment peut-on voter contre quand des millions de gens n’arrivent pas à finir le mois ? »
Son mandat lui a aussi révélé le mépris de certains élus : « Ils ne s’attendaient pas à voir une femme noire, ancienne femme de chambre, députée. En commission, on me coupait la parole, on bavardait quand je lisais mon texte. Un jour, je leur ai dit : “Taisez-vous si vous voulez entendre !” »
Écartée en 2024, elle a fondé l’association D’invisible à visible pour continuer le combat : « J’ai voulu rendre visibles ces métiers dont on ne parle pas : femmes de ménage, éboueurs, agriculteurs. Nous allons sur le terrain, filmer leur quotidien, leur donner des avocats pour les défendre. » Elle raconte avoir rencontré des agriculteurs en Loire-Atlantique : « Beaucoup ferment leurs fermes. Dans cinq ans, il n’y aura plus de lait, plus de bétail. C’est une réalité. »
Face au projet de François Bayrou de supprimer deux jours fériés payés, son appel est clair : « Déjà que les salaires n’augmentent pas et que tout est cher, on veut encore prendre deux jours non payés ? C’est trop. J’appelle les travailleurs, les agriculteurs, les routiers, les femmes de chambre à se mettre ensemble. L’union fait la force. » Et de conclure : « La lutte paye toujours. »

Today on #Linux Adventures: apparently #Ubuntu tried to update libasound2 during an update, but someone somewhere forgot to tell apt that the right package had been renamed libasound2t64. Therefore, it didn't find it and left me without sound.

some of you know that i wrote a book - "Mages & Modems" - soon to be published, about my experiences growing up in the 80s and 90s with microcomputers in northern canada.
back in 95-97, as a teenager, i worked at the arctic's first ISP. but before it became an isp, ssi micro was canada's only Gateway 2000 computer retailer.
a village of less than 500 people housed a massive 40,000 sq ft computer store.
i've been searching for photos of the old computer store, before it disappeared in the 2000s. the search has been fruitless for twenty years, until today.
today i found the one surviving photo of the store EXACTLY as it was the day i left it to go to university when i was 17 years old.
an annotated version of this photo will appear in the book. the photo is painfully low-res (digital cameras were VERY new in 97), but you can make out some of the details if you squint.
a few fun things: the cowprint sweaters in the center of the photo are official Gateway 2000 gear. i don't remember us selling a single one to a customer 😅
directly behind the sweaters are slatwall shelves (every computer store had 'em!) full of games. my big box copy of Dune CD-ROM - the one with the incredible sandworm mouth - came from that shelf
to the right of the sweaters and main entrance, along the shelves, are dozens of ISA and PCI upgrade cards. whenever a customer made a custom order, i'd walk over from the service bay, grab the upgrade card, and stick it in their machine. it was always exciting to get to test new weird stuff like SCSI and video capture boards.
the computer on the far right was supposed to be for customers to test out software and our internet service. i never once saw a customer use it, but i sure as hell got a lot of Quake DMing done on that machine 😆 it was a Gateway 2000 full tower with a Pentium 90. the fastest machine in the building.
i was a repair/ISP technician in those days, and my little service bay was beyond the wooden birch-coloured doorway. that room also housed our local dial-in lines (four of them!) and 33.6 Sportsters.

Ich wusste nicht, dass auch Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp & Co) bei der Linux Entwicklung beteiligt ist (war?). Überraschend ist dies nicht und macht durchaus Sinn und doch ist dies scheinbar deren Zusammenarbeit nicht ganz so friedlich halbwegs beendet.
