Some say itโs the greatest film of all time. Whatโs not up for debateโand what nearly everyone agrees onโis that itโs the most beautiful. Every frame could be hung on a wall. Every shot is a painting inside a frame.
Itโs a story of infidelity, longing, and bitter secrets. But itโs also a time capsule of a Hong Kong that has since disappeared.
And yes, VCD doesnโt deliver the sharpest fidelity. But somehow, it feels like the truest way to experience this film.

Why aren't there more riots in the Philippines?
The problem is that the vast majority of protests and mobs (not just in PH but globally) are purposefully delimited by both the police and by organizers under the framework of legality. Illegalism, while great, is difficult to build mass force.
Mass illegalism in protests, transforming these into riots, then insurrections, then communization, then revolution, happens under conditions of crisis and crisis activity. It's not something that can be forced into existence.
