Hey astrophotographers: do any of you have hands-on experience with diffusion/mist filters? Any brands you recommend? I'm not looking for a particularly strong effect, I don't like images where stellar haloes are overdone. But sometimes I do wish that constellations were slightly more recognisable in my pics, just a bit.
I know you can mimic this by breathing on the lens, but I know from past experience that this doesn't work in the super dry Atacama Desert 😉 Thanks!

Even with Anne’s rather specific description of her dragons, I found plenty of room for individual interpretation. These preliminary drawings show the evolution of my concept of the fantastic winged beasts.

Dear Michael Whelan,
Oh, you are a nice guy! I really have worried that I'd been overbearing/patronising/or depressing so your letter this morning reassured me considerably. Mind you, had the artwork been turned in, ears and short Jaxom and all, I'm sure it would have been more than acceptable but as I am just cringing from the travesty of a cover on an English edition of mine, your consideration pours much needed balm on lacerated sensibilities. 1/
Fire-lizards are arm-length (fore-arm, that is without tail included) graceful lovely small dragon-types, the original genetic information for dragons.
Whers have stubby wings which have been clipped so they can't fly and they have forelegs more in keeping with their hind legs, being basically quadrupeds whereas dragons are more bipedal. Whers are oviparous like dragons. Wild whers can fly but in an ungainly fashion. 4/
I guess I couldn't miss with red-white-and-blue as a color scheme!

Also here's a question for all the second-language learners out there:
When I'm awake and fresh I can read or listen for a pretty long time and understand all/most of what's going on.
When I'm tired my capacity drops to basically zero and I fail to parse basic words.

This evening is a great example of the pragmatic uselessness of #EnvironmentCanada's #AQHI scale. It is a 1-10 scale but we've been officially at level "10+" for hours now, versus #EPA #AQI numbers showing steady increase in toxicity across the same period.
My area of the city is now currently pretty close to 300.
The garbage stinking inside after days of such excessive heat I could not manage to take it out from #disability and ongoing #access issues with our new ultra-tiny bin and rando strangers dumping til it is full? I'll be continuing to live with that for the time being as the foulness of the #AirQuality currently far outstrips my ability to clean it after leaving/re-entering my residence.
I just can't manage hours of avoidable coughing right now, especially as it tends to be so harsh that I can both vomit and lose contience.
The EPA numbers are very helpful for estimating personal risk in the moment. The "10+" from EnvironmentCanada? Not so much. 😐
Exactly so! Perhaps for the CEOs and landlord class they can simply not do anything themselves at "10+" (or require an underling to do so) but I'm pretty sure regular working folks don't have that option and those of us on #disability supports damn well don't have the resources to offload such tasks and dangers on others.
I am a big fan of assessment tools, rubrics, etc yet for YEARS now it has been clear that #EnvironmentCanada's #AHQI is grossly inadequate. A good clue is the fact that a "+" is even possible on a 10-point scale, ffs.
These aren't bonus points on a classroom assignment; they are critical data real people need for functioning as safely as possible in real world conditions.
