app-DB average perv improved by 71%, est. client savings ~$85k/mo. 3 wks of programmer time and 1 wk of DBA time, and a few other things (scale testing etc. are expensive); billed $240k for the project. ROI in under 3 months.
But “machine time is cheaper than dev time”, right?

I recently finished Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which was a fun, easy read. It's hard sci-fi couched in a little bit of ridiculousness, basically a "what if" exercise of how the technological marvels of the future can go horribly wrong, but still turn into something strange and beautiful. I like Tchaikovsky's pacing, slowly feeding us world-building background while progressing the story in the present.

Une de ses collègues passe : "oh mais ça a l'air trop bien ! J'ai un ordi que j'ai pas allumé depuis 2 ans, on peut l'installer aussi ?"
un petit coup de Live-USB et c'est validé (mais on fera l'install dans la semaine).
Petit à petit, on va virer Windows de l'école ! 👍
