Sony WF-C510 connected on Linux, but never recognized as a headset
I've been fighting with my Sony WF-C510 for days.
I've tried it on Ubuntu, Debian, and Linux Mint. Same result every time: It connects successfully, but never shows up as an audio output device.
I even bought a USB Bluetooth dongle, thinking my laptop’s chipset was the problem... but nope. It still connects as a device, not a headset.
I’ve restarted Bluetooth services, switched from PulseAudio to PipeWire, and tried every "set-card-profile" trick from AI and forums, but nothing works.
Has anyone actually managed to get a Sony WF-C510 working properly on Linux?
It's clear this is purely Sony's fault for not caring about or supporting Linux drivers. Are they just ignoring the entire platform at this point?
Any workaround or success story would save my sanity.
Distros Tested: Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12-13, Mint 22

This is beyond parody: the EU has come up with a "cloud sovereignty framework" to make EU tech more sovereign and they've notably devised a "sovereignty score" to determine whether a particular cloud provider is sovereign or not (which will then determine if they get government contracts).
So far so good.
The problem however is that the way this sovereignty score gets calculated actually gives HIGHER scores to AWS, Microsoft, and Google than to European cloud providers.
This is because the formula to calculate the score (full details here: commission.europa.eu/document/…) absurdly allocates only 10% weight to "legal & jurisdictional sovereignty" (i.e., being actually a sovereign EU actor), while giving 65% combined weight to operational capabilities, supply chain documentation, and technical standards - precisely the areas where AWS/Azure/Google's massive scale gives them advantages over European providers. You can be completely subject to foreign legal jurisdiction but still score excellent overall.
EU cloud companies suspect this is intentional: the framework gives the EU bureaucratic cover to keep their existing contracts with US companies ("look, they got an excellent sovereignty score!") rather than forcing the politically difficult work of actually migrating to European infrastructure.
A sovereignty framework that prevents sovereignty, that's the EU for you...

Ich hatte ja gestern das Vergnügen, ein refurbished Yoga Thinkpad mit einem #Debian #Linux zu verwöhnen.
Schnelle Installation, ein bisserl Treiberfu und ein vergnügliches Einrichten (Browseraddons, Passwort-Manager...)
Am selben Rechner ist auch Win11 drauf. Das durfte ich auch auf letzten Stand bringen.
Abgesehen von der endlosen Upgrade-Orgie und dem schnarchlangsamen Bootprozess von Windows fiel mir aber etwas anderes, sehr bemerkenswertes auf, das ich berichtenswürdig finde.
Nimmt man ein nigelnagelneues Win11 her,öffnet den Browser Edge oder klickt links unten hin, wo bisher der Windowsbutton war (Gewohnheit) tun sich arge Dinge auf. Putin, Trump, Xi schauen da raus. Eine arme AfD-Influenzerin wird beweint, und alles löst nur Stress und Angst aus. Ein Wirbel aus Scheiße und anderer Scheiße schlägt einem entgegen.
Und schon klickst du drauf... vor Klickbait ist keiner gefeit... und die Scheiße wird mehr.
Bei der Suchleiste in der Mitte prangt gleich irgrnd ein Hinweis auf irgend ein Spiel. Dass daneben die Systemsuche ist, geht sogar unter.
Machst du die Systemsteuerung auf, Nudging, dass mit einem MS-Konto alles viel besser klappt und superer ist.
Nudging für ein One-Drive.
Nach 10 Minuten war ich fertig. Mit den Nerven.
Und ich kam zur Erkenntnis: würden mehr Leute Linux nutzen, wäre die Welt ein besserer Ort. Rein wegen der nicht verbreiteten Scheiße in einer Linux Standardinstallation.
Windows? Ich habe fertig.
(Wieder einmal. Ich schätze mich wirklich glücklich, seit vielen Jahren nur mehr Linux am Desktop zu haben!)

Meine Sis hat vor vielen Jahren einmal ein refurbished Thinkpad gekauft, wo kurz nach dem Ablauf der Garantie das Gerät sich nicht mehr laden ließ... tot.
Das ist wohl unter Pech einzureihen.
Meine Frau hat von mir vor ein paar Wochen ein refurbished Pixel Phone bekommen, wo leider der Lautsprecher zum telefonieren am Ohr kaputt war. Das ist gerade am Weg zur Reparatur auf Garantie.
Das alte Phone war auch von refurbished.at und musste ersetzt werden, weil es kein aktuelles /e/ mehr dafür gibt. Es gibt zwar noch Patches für das Android, aber in den Appstores sind einige Apps dafür, die sie oft nutzt, nicht mehr verfügbar für diese alte Android-Version. Und ein aktuelles Android gibts für diese Hardware nicht mehr. Daher ersetzen wir das Phone auch gerade. Ansonsten wäre es noch weiter einsatzbereit.
Ich selbst hab seit einem Jahr ein refurbished Pixel Phone im Einsatz. Das ist tiptop.
Ich werde auf jeden Fall aus Gründen der Nachhaltigkeit weiter meine Geräte von refurbished.at beziehen.
falls ihr zum reparierten Pixel Zusatzinfos bekommt, was genau defekt war bzw gemacht wurde um den Fehler zu beheben, wäre ich sehr interessiert daran die Infos auch zu bekommen 😀
Hab nämlich auf meinem Pixel (7 Pro) momentan auch einen defekten Ear-Piece Speaker, bin aber nicht sicher, ob der ganze Speaker ausgetauscht oder nur ein Kontakt neu gelötet werden muss. Der Speaker ist da drin echt vergraben, deshalb hätt ich gern mehr Infos bevor ich es eventuell wieder mal öffne 😅
