In the context of cloud computing and data storage dependency on US providers someone asked me on LinkedIn the following question (we also touched the, ahem, Trumps attitude to written laws):
what’s the risk for global companies that regularly offshore data operations to employees in countries where the rule of law is more like a guideline?
And that’s a genuine question, because… what are the risks here?
So the best practical answer is that you can find a long long list of risks to my and yours PII that have alrady materialised here:

Note how many of them are “data aggregators” from the US specifically, which are essentially companies who trade and resell PII as if it was wheat or potato - because they can.
And it’s not them who bear the cost of these leaks - it’s just a small portion of their potato heap gets cloned, but doesn’t prevent them from trading what they have, it’s just the cloned potatoes start circulating on dark forums.
Except that “potato” is your personal data, so it’s specifically YOU and your bank are taking all the identity fraud hits.
