A S1500 tem formato de dirigível e se tornou a primeira turbina desse tipo a gerar um megawatt de energia durante um teste em um local desértico na região de Xinjiang, no oeste da China.
Com a utilização de turbinas eólicas flutuantes a China planeja reduzir o uso das enormes torres de aço, diminuindo o uso de material em cerca de 40% e os custos de eletricidade em 30%.
Além disso, elas podem ser realocadas rapidamente, sendo úteis em ambientes remotos, como desertos, ilhas e minas. Em caso de emergência, o sistema pode ser ativado em poucas horas para restaurar a energia.
