New Follower Notification

For a while I haven't seen any 'New Follower' notifications even though the number of followers on the Contacts page has gone slightly up. Is there a setting I may have accidentally turned off? I can't find any. I am using an account type 'Personal', sub type 'Soapbox' (so follow requests are automatically accepted and not shown) and the server is on the stable version 2022.10.

Do these notifications work for others?

Is there a way to sort the followers on the Contacts page with the newest first, instead of alphabetically? That would help too.

@Gidi Kroon No matter what the account type you're using, you should always get a notification when someone follows you. I introduced this notification this year because I also runs a Soapbox account and I wanted a better visibility on my new followers.

There's no such sort order yet but it's a good idea.

@Hypolite Petovan I think I saw two such notifications earlier in the year when you had introduced this function, previous stable I think, but none since. Other notifications are fine. They work for you?

@Gidi Kroon I've received a slew of them on the days right after Musk completed the Twitter purchase, and the last one I received was 18 hours ago, sorry I can't reproduce your issue.

@Hypolite Petovan Thanks for confirming that it is an issue on my side. I'll try some different settings, see what happens. I just did a test with unfollowing/following from another server (Friendica and Pleroma) and no notification appeared.

When I observe the logs on a quieter Friendica server and do the unfollow/follow on an account there, all seems normal and no notification appears. The only slightly related remark is an INFO level "Not an item based notification, quitting". But that is before the NOTICE log message that successfully processes the follow.

I'll see if I can invent some other settings to try. For now I assume that my tests are unsuccessful because these are already existing profiles/contacts.
