When you tell your wife you installed #Linux on the toaster, and it now requires typing seven commands to toast the bread ...

$ toastctl set-heater=on --grade=9
do you want your toast toasted to grade nine please re-issue your command with --force
$ toastctl set-heater=on --grade=9 --force
are you sure? re-issue the command with --really-force
$ toastctl set-heater=on --grade=9 --really-force
toasting at grade 9, you have been warned. This process cannot be reverted

I mean OK but what about the melting garbage bag ominously creeping in from the top left?
in reply to nixCraft 🐧

actually it’s only one command but it requires 16 options and parameters
in reply to nixCraft 🐧

I mean, is it really so hard to remember
input timerVal
init startup
run warmup cycle 100
run heat cycle 450
start timer timerVal
stop heat cycle
eject bread ?

Like, it just takes a few moments to type out.

don't understand the issue. Why would I type commands for the toaster when I can just place a config file in the kettle and call boilwater with --also-make-toast flag from the electronic bidet?

Just

$ systemctl enable --now toast.service

Who is Taylor S. and Travis K.?

in reply to nixCraft 🐧

My wife has been provided computing devices with at least 6 different OS' over the years. And she's done just fine!
Color Computer Basic & OS9, DOS, Windows (1.03 - Vista), GEOWorks, Linux (and iterations in Android and Chromebook)
in reply to nixCraft 🐧

Why is she complaining? The seven commands can easily be automated with a git-based workflow.
in reply to nixCraft 🐧

"She just isn't smart enough to understand that commandline is the most efficient UI for toasting bread."
in reply to nixCraft 🐧

its more like:

"Where are my kneesocks? Have you again used them for programming?! Was it at lest in Rust? Dont tell me it was C!!"

in reply to nixCraft 🐧

that young man needs a script, possibly an alias.

Life on the edge would be a hot key that toasts all the bread.

in reply to nixCraft 🐧

But she can write a script with only nine possible arguments!

Not one thing is harder to use. Everything running Linux is saved. From junk to champ in minutes.

I made a joke about linux and only windows fanboys laughed, can I still come to the Foss con?

Sure, but you can't use bash.
